DPW-10016-2J
Roof Repair
Building 2201
Scope of Work
(3 August 2016)
The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, shipping, storage, and transportation as required to perform all work in accordance with these specifications, commercial practices and industry standards. All work shall be accomplished in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Work includes but is not limited to the following:
Mow grass short on the earth covered ammunition bunker, Building 2201. Rake up all grass and dispose of in approved location.
Haul and place material on Building 2201 from the “Soil Stockpile” on Fort Wainwright to fill all holes and grade to Typical Section shown on plans. See Elevation View and Plan View for area on Building 2201 to receive fill and regrade. A minimum of two feet of earth cover is required over the ammunition bunker. It is estimated approximately 325 CY of fill is to be placed and graded on the earth covered ammunition bunker. The existing grade varies with some low spots being over one foot beneath the top of the concrete headwalls, while in other areas only three inches. This will require the Contractor to shape the existing surface in coordination with placement of fill to meet the desired grade.
On the 1-1/2 : 1 fore slopes on average approximately six inches of fill will be placed and graded to the Typical Section detail. The flatter section of the roof starting at the hinge point shall receive on average approximately six inches of fill material increasing to provide for a 4% crown as shown on the Typical Section detail. Measurement of fill is based on placed and compacted material as shown on the Typical Section detail. On either end of the ammunition bunker the grade shall be warped to keep top of fill six inches below the top of the concrete header and headwalls. This is to keep drainage from flowing over the top of the headwalls and to provide for the CSPE geomembrane concrete anchor attachment hardware to attach to the inside vertical face of the concrete header and headwall.
Compaction and surface preparation will be provided to maintain structural integrity and avoid erosion. A large vibratory drum roller shall not be used over the earth covered magazine for compaction.
There are existing pipe vents penetrating through the surface and a lightning protection system. Contractor shall conduct work in a manner to protect existing structure and all existing utilities from any damage. Should any damage occur to existing structure or utilities by the Contractor, the Contractor shall repair at his expense to new or pre-damaged condition.
Provide and install a Layfield chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE) geomembrane or approved equal over the graded earth covered ammunition bunker. See Elevation View and Plan View for size and dimensions of CSPE geomembrane required. The approximate size is 142’ long x 85’ wide. The CSPE geomembrane shall be attached to the earth covered ammunition storage bunker as detailed in the Concrete Anchor Bar detail and the Anchor Trench detail.
MATERIALS:
Fill material will be reasonably cohesive (solid or wet clay or similar types of soil may not be used as they are too cohesive). It shall be free from deleterious organic matter, trash, debris, and stones heavier than 10 pounds or larger than 6 inches in diameter.

4. Replace any pallets that may become damaged during shipping or handling.
5. Store liner panels in a secure area protected from extremes of heat or cold.
6. Protect panels from damage prior to use.
ACCESSORIES
1. Preformed Pipe Boots will be formed in the field from the same formulation as the geomembrane.
2. Adhesive: All seaming and sealing adhesives shall be of a type or types recommended by the Manufacturer of the fabric-reinforced Hypalon for use with its material and shall be delivered in original sealed containers each with an indelible label bearing the brand name, Manufacturer's name, date of manufacture, and complete directions as to proper storage, use, and application of adhesives.
3. All seaming adhesives shall be the same color as the top ply of the Hypalon material being seamed. Seaming, splicing, sealing and patching adhesive shall be a "compound filled adhesive" which is a high-solids (nominally 15%) solution of the same compound used in the parent sheet in a solvent approved for use in potable water applications. This adhesive shall be used for all specifically designated factory and all field Hypalon-to-Hypalon bonds. This adhesive is also referred to as a "solvent welding solution".
4. Pre-wash Solvent: Solvent for pre-washing/cleaning surfaces for field seams and other similar uses shall be as recommended by the Manufacturer of the fabric-reinforced Hypalon and suitable for use with potable water-grade Hypalon. Unless otherwise specified, xylene is specified for this use.
5. All penetrations through CSPE membrane shall be sealed as shown in the pipe penetration detail.
INSTALLER
1. An installer approved by the manufacturer of the CSPE geomembrane.
PREPARATION
1. Ensure subgrade is compacted and surface finished to not impair installed membrane.
2. Prepare subgrade to provide firm, unyielding surface with no sharp changes or abrupt breaks in grade. A smooth drum rolled surface is preferable.
3. Ensure surfaces to be lined are smooth, free of foreign and organic material, sharp objects, or debris of any kind.
4. A suitable cushion layer of nonwoven geotextile shall be placed prior to liner placement.

4. Weather Conditions at Time of Installation:
a. Site welding may proceed at any temperature providing a suitable qualification weld can be prepared at site conditions using the operator, equipment, and materials intended for the project.
b. Installation of membrane in winds above 12 mph can proceed only if the installer can demonstrate that the liner will not be at risk of damage.
c. Do not install membrane during precipitation or in the presence of excessive moisture.
d. Do not install in weather conditions that may be detrimental to the function of the membrane.
5. Ensure personnel working on geomembrane do not use damaging footwear.
6. Protect completed panels from damage; handle carefully to avoid damaging the liner.
7. Equipment and methods used to unroll liner panels should not damage the prepared subgrade.

10. Field Seams
1. Field seams will be sampled for testing in a way that does not compromise the installed liner
a. One sample to be tested for every 500 ft of field seam
b. Test samples are to be removed from the ends of seams, from the anchor trench, or other location that does not introduce a defect into the liner.
c. Samples to be approximately 4 inches long to permit testing of one shear and two peel specimens (ASTM D6392).
d. Test samples immediately after seaming
e. Record date, location and pass/fail description
2. Field seams must meet the specified requirements in peel and shear for the material.
