This report presents finite element analysis of the Spud Well Dead-End Foundation performed by Technology Associates, Inc. The Dead-End Foundation has been analyzed in Nastran In CAD software. The force on the spud well dead-end foundation due to the breaking strength of the wire rope was used in this analysis.

This report presents finite element analysis of the Spud Well Gate performed by Technology Associates, Inc. The gate has been analyzed in Nastran In CAD software. The Transverse force on the spud well gate due to wind and current at 90 deg and was used in this analysis. The spud force is resisted by wear pads on the spud gate.

Fixed boundary conditions are assumed at the spud well gate lugs contact areas. A linear static analysis was performed using the Autodesk Nastran Version.

This report presents finite element analysis of the Spud Well Gate Pin performed by Technology

Associates, Inc. The gate pin has been analyzed in Nastran In CAD software. The Transverse force on the spud well gate due to wind and current at 90 deg was used in this analysis. This force is resisted by the area in contact with the spud well gate.

Fixed boundary conditions are assumed at the areas in contact with the spud well lugs. A linear static analysis was performed using the Autodesk Nastran Version.

This report presents finite element analysis of the Spud Well Sheave Foundation performed by Technology Associates, Inc. The Sheave Foundation has been analyzed in Nastran In CAD software. The force on the spud well sheave foundation due to the breaking strength of the wire rope and was used in this analysis. The force is resisted by the sheave pin hole. Breaking strength of the rope is 160,000 lbf.

Fixed boundary conditions are assumed at the spud well insert plating. A linear static analysis was performed using the Autodesk Nastran Version.

Note:

The following table is SolidWorks’ interpretation of possible Buckling Load Factor (BLF) values:

BLF Value Buckling Status Notes

1 < BLF Buckling not predicted

The applied loads are less than the estimated critical loads. Buckling is not expected.

0 < BLF < 1 Buckling predicted

The applied loads exceed the estimated critical loads. Buckling is expected.

BLF = 1 Buckling predicted

The applied loads are exactly equal to the estimated critical loads.

Buckling is expected

BLF = -1 Buckling not predicted

The buckling occurs when the directions of the applied loads are all reversed. For example, if a bar is under tensile load, the BLF should be negative. The bar will never buckle.

-1 < BLF < 0 Buckling not predicted

Buckling is predicted if you reverse all loads.

BLF < -1 Buckling not predicted

Buckling is not expected even if you reverse all loads.
