PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 SETTLEMENT PLATE INSTALLATION
3.1.1 General
After the completion of each one third of marsh cell dikes, the Contractor shall install three settlement plates: one at five feet from the interior dike crest, one at the mid slope to the interior, and one at the interior toe. This installation shall occur within 30 days of each sections substantial completion. These cross sectional installations shall be performed at each one third section of marsh cell dike, which will produce a total of 18 individual installations. The location shall be approved and directed by the Contracting Officer's Representative.
3.1.2 Placement
The settlement plates shall be installed at the completion of the dike construction, grading, and compaction operations in each section, as approved by the Contracting Officer's Representative. Plates shall be installed by excavating 24 inches into the finished dike, tamping a firm receiving foundation, and then by hand backfilling and tamping. The top of pipe of the settlement plate shall extend at least 2 feet above the dike grade.
The Contractor shall provide the Contracting Officer with field measurements of the installation to include a shop drawing of the fabrication and installation at each location and a survey of the horizontal and vertical location of the top of the settlement rod, at a minimum using the equivalent or better accuracy of an RTK surveying system utilizing a base station. Survey methods shall be the same as used for acceptance surveys of the dike. Indicate XYZ coordinates of each settlement plate on the Record Drawings.
3.2 PROTECTION
The Contractor shall take reasonable precautions to avoid damaging any of the settlement monitoring equipment. If the Contractor does damage any settlement equipment, it shall be their responsibility to replace this equipment at no cost to the Government.
3.3 CONTRACTOR QUALITY CONTROL
3.3.1 Compliance Inspection
Prior to placement, the Contractor shall inspect each settlement plate for damage or other defects.
3.3.2 Reports
Reports of the inspection activity and corrective action taken shall be submitted with the daily reports.
