UPDATED QUESTIONS-ANSWERS OCT
Vendor Questions: Updated 6 Oct 2021
Q1 - I see that you want 2 machining centers and 8 pallet pool, but it the 8 pallet pool per machine? In other words, each machine to have its own pallet pool?
Government Answer: There would an 8 pallet pool system that would be shared between both machines. Not per machine.
Q2- Will a fixed crossrail machine with a RAM of Z-axis travel 1500mm/59” acceptable?
Government Answer: Yes.
Q3 - In the RFQ we do not find any specification regarding the turning tool preference? Is SANDVIK CAPTO C6 acceptable or WVA has another preference?
Government Answer: Sandvik Capto/HSK is acceptable.
Q4 - Building dimensions are not available in the RFQ, but at least the height available will help (floor to overhead crane hook)
Government Answer: 19 ft.
Q5 - 3.1.4 Hydrostatic guideways are acceptable?
Government Answer: They are not. It is preferred to have box ways or roller bearing guideways.
Q6 - 3.1.2.2 ISO standard 230-5 norms will be applicate to measure the noise level, will be this accepted by WVA?
Government Answer: Yes.
Q7 - 3.2.2.10 as standard we do suggest RMP60 Renishaw probe, will be this acceptable?
Government Answer: Yes.
Q8 - 3.2.2.11 Renishaw probe arm HPMA is not applicable for this machine size and configuration, will be acceptable our standard solution (proved design)?
Government Answer: Renishaw probe arm TS-20 or equal will be considered.
Q9 - 3.3.7 Pietro Carnaghi standard is direct drive for the main spindle on this machine size, is this acceptable? Direct Drive has better performance and offer great quality in terms of positioning and finishing surface.
Government Answer: Yes it is.
Q10 - With reference to the pallet system:
1) Do you require an 8 pallet pool for each machine or one 8 pallet pool servicing both machines?
Government Answer: One for servicing both.
Q11 - You are asking for a linear pallet pool. If you require one (8) pallet pool for each machine, do you need:
a. The machine in the middle
b. The machine on the right
c. The machine on the left (NOTE: this questioner starts his email with “Your specification clearly states you require two Horizontal machines." I have called their attention that we are requesting VERTICAL Centers. I am forwarding this question in case it is still relevant).
- Can you please confirm the diameter of table required for this job?
a) 3.2.1.1 b states 62” diameter
b) 3.2.2.5 states 49” diameter Please advise which is correct.
Government Answer: 62 inch diameter.
Q12 - Paragraph 3.2.1.1 & 3.2.1.1 b.)
62" Table Dia. is specified.
As per section 3.2.2.5, The machine’s work table assembly shall include a rotary contouring work table as a C-Axis. It shall be a rotary contouring table that’s 49” in diameter (round table only).
Please clarify the required table Dia. as the above 2 specs contract each other
Government Answer: 62 inch table.
Q13 - Paragraph 3.2.1.1 c.)
Tool holder type....Big Plus CAT 50 Could we propose CAT50 or CAPTO tool holders instead of Big Plus or other types? Please confirm.
Government Answer: Cat50 is not acceptable. Big Plus Cat50/Capto/HSK is acceptable.
Q14 - Paragraph 3.2.1.1 e.)
Max Tool Diameter Std (full).... 10” Max Tool Diameter Std (adjacent empty)... 7.8" How can be Max. Tool diameter of full tool changer 10” bigger than (adjacent empty) 7.8” Please clarify.
Government Answer: We require a 10” max diameter tool to fit, but there must be 7.8” of a gap between the 10” tool and the next pocket over in case we have two 10” tools in every other pocket.
Q15 - Paragraph 3.2.1.1 f.)
X axis motion squareness with Work Table Surface, Trammed from Spindle 00025" per 12”
Please clarify how X axis can be square to work table surface if they are parallel?
Government Answer: It should state Z axis squareness to the x axis (table).
Q16 - Paragraph 3.2.1.1 f.)
Linear Bi-Repeatability (X, V, Z-Axis) Linear Positioning (X, V, Z-Axis) What is a "V" axis?
Government Answer: Should state the Y axis. Specification has been updated.
Additional Vendor Questions in response to Amendment 0001
Q17 - Please explain what the Y axis movement specifically refers to on the machine? What is its travel? Is it the cross rail?
Government Answer: It is the cross rail. It might also be called a w-axis. But, the axis is for the cross rail.
Q18 - Can you confirm whether the height of the parts to be machined is the same or do you have a variety of part heights in your job load?
