Test Procedures for Side-by-Side Flowability Comparison of the M295 Individual Equipment Decontamination Kit for First Article Testing.
1.0 SCOPE
The Side-by-Side Flowability Comparison Test for the M295 will be used to visually assess the flowability of sorbent powder through the mitt.
2.0 SIDE-BY-SIDE COMPARISON TEST
2.1 EQUIPMENT. The following equipment shall be used:
2.1.1 TEST EQUIPMENT. Test equipment consists of the following:
Glove Box Black Paper Video Camera
2.1.2 Testing Material
15 sample packets
2.2 PROCEDURE. All tests are to be performed in a glove box.
1.) Label the test samples.
2.) Set up the glove box for recording. Ensure that the camera is focused appropriately on the impact area to allow an observer of the recording to visually assess the flow of sorbent powder through the mitt. Place black paper or plastic on all surfaces of the box that will be in the film.
3.) Record the following before each trial begins.
a.) Date b.) Temperature inside glovebox c.) Relative humidity inside of glovebox d.) Sample number e.) Name of person performing the test f.) Any other notable observations
4.) Place the un-opened packet into the glove box. Do not remove the mitt from its packaging until the relative humidity has reached equilibrium.
Note: The relative humidity inside the glove box must remain between 0-25%, and the temperature must be 77 ± 18°F.

5.) Begin camera recording. Don the mitt in accordance with the following procedures:
a.) Tear packet at any notch.
b.) Remove decon mitt.
c.) Unfold decon mitt.
d.) Insert hand inside the decon mitt. Make sure the pad side is on the palm of the hand (use thumbholes if deemed necessary). Tighten the wristband on the gloved hand.
Note: The sorbent may tend to group at the edges of the mitt. The patting sequence may be briefly interrupted to adjust the sorbent in the mitt.
6.) Pat the mitt for 2 minutes at approximately 75-125 pats/minute. When testing of the mitt is complete, stop camera recording.
7.) Record the following after the test is completed a.) Number of pats b.) Length of test from first to last pat
8.) After each trial is complete, clean up the glove box. Brush the sorbent off of the black paper and/or plastic, and clean the window that the video was filmed through.
9.) Repeat steps 3-8 for the remaining samples.
10) After all testing is complete, or as needed as determined by the test operator, remove sorbent from all surfaces of the glovebox. If paper is removed and trials remain, repeat step 2.
11) Dispose of paper in accordance with local procedures.
