RFI’s W50S8Q-22-B-0006 Responses are Bold (RFI 1-5 posted on 24 Aug 22)
6: I spent an hour looking for ODOT specs for asphalt sealer and can’t find them. Please advise what product you want for the main part of your project?
6. Response: The contractor will be required to submit a material submittal for an “Asphalt emulsion sealant (sealcoat).”
7. Will a tax exempt certificate be provided for this project?
7. Response: Yes
8. Clarification on Striping from RFI #2 and Section 3.2.5 - I am reviewing the SOW. Does the striping need to be Thermo? It doesn’t specify. I can’t imagine the parking lots are but a lot of this work is in the drivelines and especially the red area on the road.
8. Response: The Government is not requiring thermoplastic marking for this project.
9. Regarding the compaction testing. The areas only being 4ft wide, we can’t get a big roller into these areas plus there are no requirements in the specifications for the testing. Please advise.
9. Response: SOW 3.3.4 and 3.35 is requesting testing of all subsurface materials, and compaction and asphalt surface testing. The method used to achieve compaction for area 4 feet wide is not specified but must meet industry standards. There are many options available for compaction of the gravel of within those areas (plate tamper, jumping jack, or a small roller being the most common).
For the testing, the Government is mainly worried about compaction of the subsurface (gravel) through various methods (Troxler, sand cone through a 3rd party, etc.) but has not specifying which type. It is needs to know the compaction/density. For the asphalt surface testing the Government is looking for the mix design/studies from the batch plant on the asphalt mix.
10. Base bid asphalt Crack sealing
- defined in 3.2 Base bid asphalt Striping
- defined in RFI response 2 Base bid Full Depth Replacement
- defined in 3.3
- Base Bid Asphalt Sealing is not defined.
-ODOT does not reference a seal coat....they do reference chip sealing.
-If we could get the description of work for the Asphalt Sealing and the products required I would appreciate it.
10. Response: See Amendment #2 to the solicitation for changes “with an asphalt emulsion sealant” has been added to SOW paragraphs 2.1.1., 3.4.1, 3.4.2, 3.4.3, 3.4.4 and 3.4.5.
