About this file
This is a specification document for intelligent electric actuators for river gate intake systems issued by the City of Minneapolis Public Works (MWW). The specification details the procurement of Limitorque MX Series B actuators or approved equivalents to operate existing sluice gates at a water facility. The actuators must be capable of both local and remote SCADA control with multi-turn operation, positioned to allow partial gate opening with position indication. Key technical requirements include NEMA 4X/IP68 watertight ratings, 480-volt three-phase 60-hertz power supply, cast aluminum housing with powder coat finish, solid-state control circuits operating at 24VDC, and a duty cycle of minimum 15 minutes with 60 starts per hour for open-closed service. Submittals must include shop drawings with recommended speed ranges and mounting configurations, wiring diagrams, manufacturer certifications confirming compliance with AWWA C542 standards, installation instructions, test reports, and operation and maintenance manuals. The specification requires manufacturer on-site services including one installation visit per valve to confirm compliance with manufacturer instructions, valve adjustment and testing, and one callback visit at owner request. Operator training of minimum one hour on two separate days for each valve type must be provided after system commissioning.
All equipment must be fully compliant with AWWA C542 and NSF/ANSI 61 standards for drinking water system components. The manufacturer must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of documented experience producing specified equipment for water or wastewater service and maintain local support within a 45-mile radius of the facility. Equipment shall be delivered in protective crates with all pipe and electrical connection openings covered. The actuators must include advanced diagnostic capabilities with LCD display showing real-time status, valve position, torque graphs, and configurable alarm and event logs with data storage for thousands of historical actions. Additional required features include absolute position encoders with 18-bit resolution and 100 percent repeatability, Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity meeting Bluetooth 4.0 standards for configuration via PC or tablet, 4-20 mA position feedback, phase correction circuits, and multiple protection layers including non-configurable standard alarms and configurable deviation and high-level warnings to alert operators of potential issues before equipment failures occur.
