SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS / REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Solicitation Number: TBD Date: August 15, 2023

Title: Brookhaven National Laboratory “Deep Learning and Computer Vision for Upgraded Science and Engineering at NSLS-11”

THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTE OR PROPOSAL. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR

INFORMATION (RFI) ONLY.

No solicitation is available at this time. This RFI is released for the purpose of conducting market research only. This announcement shall NOT be construed as a commitment by Brookhaven Science Associates LLC (BSA) to award a Subcontract. Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) reserves the right to use any and all information submitted by, or obtained from, an interested party in any manner BNL determines is appropriate, including, but not limited to, the creation of a competitive solicitation. An interested party shall NOT include any business confidential and/or proprietary information in its response, which will only be used internally for feasibility and market research and not shared with any external sources. BNL will NOT pay for any information that is provided in response to this announcement nor will it compensate any respondents for the development of such information.

The purpose of this RFI is to gain market input to support our market research and obtain capabilities from potential Subcontractors. All official RFI responses shall be submitted via e-mail to the BNL Point of Contact, Cassandra Smith at Csmith2@bnl.gov no later than 4:00 p.m. EST on, August 22, 2022. BNL personnel may contact firms responding to this announcement to clarify a responder’s capabilities or other matters as part of this market research process.

Background:

BNL is a Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratory multidisciplinary research facility, located on Long Island, New York. It is important to keep synchrotron radiation beamline equipment safe during operations, especially for remote and autonomous operations. The current equipment protection system (EPS) is normally based on hard/soft limits and hard stops to avoid equipment damage due to collisions.

But this is still not enough for complex coordinated motions. In this project, we plan to develop a computer vision-based object 3D localization system to localize material holders, stages, and detectors to avoid collisions between them.

Need:

BNL requests any potential Subcontractors to be capable of developing a multi-camera system, development of algorithm to track equipment, and setup and commissioning of system. Please see attached DRAFT Statement of Work (SOW) for further explanation of requirements.

Period of Performance:

BNL is considering a period of performance of one (1) base year of twelve (12) months with the option to extend for up to an additional year of twelve (12) months.

Response Requirement:

All interested parties submit an electronic response. They shall be no less than 11-point font, 10 pages or less, and 20 Megabytes or less in PDF format.
