The County provides for the health and welfare of all people within its borders and serves as the local government for the unincorporated areas. Innovation thrives here in industries including bioscience, computer software, green technology, hospitality, financial management, health care, education and transportation. The
County prides itself on how that prosperity fosters its commitment to protecting and enhancing the health, safety, welfare and natural resources of the community.

Parks are located throughout the County and represent a wide variety of natural settings including a coastside marine reserve, a bayside recreational area, coastal mountain woodland areas, and urban site.
Approximately 3 million visitors utilize the various trails and parks maintained by SMC.
Furthermore, to improve access and public safety, SMC Parks manages hazard trees located near high use areas and critical infrastructure. Managing trees around high use public areas is essential to SMC Park's safety mission.
