U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service Death Valley National Park Scope of Work for Provide, Install, and Rebuild Cla-Val pressure reducing valves in Furnace Creek and Cow Creek PMIS Project # 315593 General Description of Work

i) Perform cyclic replacement of three (3) Cla-Val brand pressure reducing valves in the Furnace Creek and Cow Creek developed areas in Death Valley National Park.

ii) Repair (rebuild) eleven (11) Cla-Val brand pressure reducing valves in the Furnace Creek and Cow Creek developed area of Death Valley National Park while providing rebuild training to park utilities staff.

Background Cla-Val control valves in operation on the water systems in the Furnace Creek and Cow Creek developed areas are past the end of their useful life given the aggressive water chemistry and heat in Death Valley National Park. Valve failure causes overflow flooding and significant resources to be consumed in the production of treated water which is wasted due to overflows. Additionally, valve failure can cause downstream system over pressure conditions, which can result in significant damage to water distribution infrastructure.

Objective Completion of this project will reduce the annual operation and maintenance cost of the water distribution system by eliminating unnecessary discharge of treated water due to valve failure, as well as address potential water system over pressure conditions caused by failed/failing valves.

Tasks and Supplies A. Prior to work on each valve, coordinate with Park staff to note all system pressures as shown on gauges on and around the valve, so that replacement valve can be set appropriately.

B. Replace three Cla-Val valves complete and rebuild eleven Cla-Val valves including, but not limited to all labor and materials required.

C. Confine operations to an area within a 10’ radius of the valve or existing roadways and streets.

D. Park staff will make water system shut‐offs as necessary.

E. Park water distribution system is fragile due to age and environmental conditions. Extreme care shall be taken to limit the stress on existing underground and aboveground piping and connections when performing the scope of work.

F. Upon completion of work on each valve, coordinate with Park staff to set and test valve to appropriate pressure conditions.

Contract Period and Schedule A. The contract period of performance is to be 90 days from Notice to Proceed.

B. Contractor shall be required to submit for review and approval a schedule as identified in the General Specifications.

C. The Park is required to notify residents or building occupants in advance of any utility outage. Therefore, the contractor’s approved schedule shall be strictly adhered to in performance of the work.

D. Contractor work shall be restricted on certain weekends/holidays that typically experience high park visitation.
