About this file

This document is Amendment No. 1 to Request for Quote (RFQ) No. 2025022604 for "Dry Coolers" issued by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The amendment provides answers to vendor technical questions regarding the dry cooler requirements, including that the outlet temperature should match ambient conditions up to 35°C, and hail protection is required but louvers are likely not necessary. The RFQ solicits proposals for dry cooler heat exchangers to support the operation of an existing 10MW low temperature electrolysis station. Proposals are due by 4:00pm Mountain Time on 12/13/2024. The award will be made on a lowest price technically acceptable basis. The solicitation is being issued by the Department of Energy's Office of Science.

Amendment No. 1 is hereby issued to answer vendor submitted technical questions. Please review the below questions (in black) and answers (in red)

I see the duty, flow and inlet temperature in this document which we could use to calculate the outlet temperature. However could you provide your target outlet temperature so we can be sure that before we do all the design and quote we are sure we are meeting your needs?

We do not need any active control on the dry cooler outlet temperature, so this should just match ambient.

Our worst-case ambient temp is 35 C.

Do you want louvers? If yes, should the louvers be manual or automatic?

We did not discuss louvers as a team. I assume they would be meant to tune the cooling capacity of the unit? I'd be interested to hear more about the design, but they are likely not necessary.

We do, however, need the top to be protected from hail.

You called these “dry coolers”, are there also evaporative coolers (wet coolers) for this project?

No.
