About this file

This document is a proposal from Nussbaum Transportation Services, Inc. submitted to DriveOhio and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for the I-70 Truck Automation Corridor Project. The proposal involves a collaborative effort between Nussbaum and supporting partners including Daimler/Detroit Connect, Truck Centers, Inc., and Advantage One/Geotab to deploy Level 2 (L2) autonomous truck technology along the I-70 corridor spanning Ohio and Indiana.

The proposal outlines a deployment of three trucks with associated trailers, each driven by a different professional driver who regularly travels routes between Ohio, Indiana, and neighboring states. The trucks will be equipped with Freightliner Cascadia models featuring Assurance 6.0 autonomous driving system, Geotab GO tracking devices, and Lytx SR4 cameras. The project is scheduled to run from March 2026 to November 2026, with an anticipated total cost of $49,654 (plus or minus 20%). Nussbaum will share data related to geolocation, equipment, and environment, with restrictions on personal driver and customer information. The company commits to minimal driver training due to existing familiarity with the technology and planned routes.

I-70 TRUCK AUTOMATION

CORRIDOR PROPOSAL

June 26, 2025

To DriveOhio and INDOT and Whom It May Concern, I am excited to submit this proposal on behalf of Nussbaum Transportation Services, Inc., and our technology and equipment partners to take part in the I-70 Truck Automation Corridor Project. Nussbaum has direct experience with aspects of Level 2 automation and leading-edge vehicle safety technology, and we look forward to fully outfitting vehicles with L2 automation. We believe that we can leverage our experience and relationships to bring extensive value to this project.

Nussbaum is a truckload industry leader in safety, technology, driver relations and career advancement, and profitability. These proficiencies have uniquely positioned us to add value and learn alongside the joint transportation departments of Ohio and Indiana. Together with Daimler/Detroit Connect, Truck Centers, Inc., and Advantage One/Geotab, we look forward to collaborating as we learn about autonomous vehicle capabilities and requirements.

Sincerely, DOUG BRADLE

DEPLOYMENT TEAM

N u s s b a u m Tra n s p o r t a t i o n

The primary entity in this deployment team is Nussbaum Transportation Services, which will provide the trucks and trailers outfitted with autonomous capabilities. Our standard truck specs include many of the latest safety features offered for mass production (which can be upgraded to L2 standards), including Assurance 6.0, Daimler’s newest ADS system.

Additionally, we outfit our Freightliner Cascadia trucks with Geotab GO tracking devices and SR4 forward and rear-facing cameras from Lytx, along with a robust system for gathering and utilizing the resulting data.

There will be three trucks (with their associated trailers) committed to the project. The first driver (Richard) is on a consistent lane and travels daily on I-70 across Indiana to Dayton, OH. Richard picks up a load every evening, Monday through Friday, at 1600 Central Time in Bloomington, IL, drives to Huber Heights, OH to be offloaded, and returns to Bloomington.

The portion of his route across IN and OH is 198 miles one direction. He covers this twice each day in his regular work, so total weekly miles in IN/OH is 1,980.

The second driver (Hans) drives between Clayton, OH and Evansville, IN multiple times per week. He picks up Monday through Friday at 0130 Eastern Time in Clayton and delivers to Louisville, KY and then on to Evansville and returns to Clayton via Indianapolis. The portion of his route across OH and IN is 447 miles out of 555 miles that he runs every day. He covers this route 5 times per week, so total weekly miles in IN/OH is 2,235.

The third driver (Ed) runs a circuit from Clayton, OH to Belle, WV, and Parkersburg, WV, and then back to Clayton. He picks up at 2030 Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. The portion of his route across OH and IN is 343 miles out of 502 miles that he runs every day. He covers this route 5 times per week, so total weekly miles in IN/OH is 1,715 . All three drivers will receive new trucks with L2 automation capabilities for this project.

Truck Centers, Inc. (Freightliner Dealer) — Justin Hopkins, Vice President of Sales

Advantage (Geotab Reseller) — Andrew Kopecki, Business Development Manager

DATA SHARING

Nussbaum is able and committed to sharing data with the project teams. We will be relying on Advantage One, our Geotab reseller, to manage much (or all) of the data delivery.

We have enjoyed a close working relationship for 8 years, and Advantage is currently running a similar state-partnership project for another customer with good success.

We are willing to share any data that relates to geolocation, equipment, and environment.

Our only limitation is in regard to customers’ or drivers’ personal data; we can only share what they have granted permission to release. Further information regarding data sharing can be found in the tables in Appendix A.

DEPLOYMENT SCHEDULE

Deployment will depend on the timing of build and delivery for the trucks being used.

Expected truck build date is December and delivery to Nussbaum would be January 2026.

Driver training should be minimal for L2 automation given their familiarity with many of these systems. The drivers will be taking routes they already drive daily, so we can deploy them in the target area as soon as the equipment and training portions are complete.

L2 Deployment Schedule

We anticipate a L2 deployment of 8-10 months.

PROJECT COST

The project cost has been laid out in Table 6. We anticipate a total cost of $49,654 for

L2 deployment, plus or minus 20 % as laid out in the proposal instructions.
