R17PS00480 Amendment 000001 Page 1
R17PS00480 Questions and Answers 01
Question 01: Where the existing ductwork is being replace with new double-wall duct, can the exterior dimension of the new ductwork be sized to match the existing wall penetration? Increasing the exterior dimension of the ductwork will require increasing the size of the wall penetration and re-framing the existing red-iron on the inside of the building. Another alternative would be to make the transition from the new double walled duct to the existing single walled duct on the exterior rather than the interior side of the existing wall penetration. Please clarify: install per drawings and resize the penetration, resize the duct to match the penetration, or move the point of connection to the exterior.
Answer 01: The double wall duct needs to penetrate the wall as we have had problems with duct condensate rusting out the wall sandwich panels in other buildings.
However, Drawing sheet 1292-303-60059 (sheet 2) duct note for coolers NEC-16- AC709 and NEC-16-AC708 has been changed to include moving the ductwork out away from the building. We realize the geometry of the duct will change due to the double wall construction. Drawing 1292-303-60062 (sheet 3) has been changed to add the option of either side draft or updraft configurations for these two units.
Question 02: The water supply for the new coolers is to be connected to the existing gate valves. Many of them appear to be in questionable working condition. Should we include replacing the existing gate valves with new ball valves?
Answer 02: Drawing sheet 1292-303-60064 (Sheet 5) typical utility connections for WQIC, Chlorine & Compressor Building note has been changed to include replacing the isolation valve with a brass body, lever operated ball valve with PTFE seats.
Question 03: Many of the evaporative coolers being replaced appears to be larger than the evaporative coolers specified to replace them.
On the WQIC building the south elevations (2 west evap. Coolers), the east elevations 2 evap. Coolers and the north elevations 2 evap. Coolers have model numbers that are hard to read but they appear to all have the same model number DM120E. That would make them all 12000 CFM cabinets.
On the compressor building and the chlorine building the evaporative coolers have data tags that are unreadable but appear to be larger than 4700 to 5000 CFM specified to replace them.
Do we replace with the evaporative coolers with the sizes specified or with evaporative coolers equal to the existing cooler sizes?
Answer 03: Use the size shown on the schedules.
