Solicitation Number R15PS00971 Keswick Fish Trap Brail Replacement
Questions and Answers – Amendment 0002
Q1: Can Reclamation further define what is required for the fish brail seals? Drawing 214-D-9130 shows a 5” seal but does not show a bulb size, hollow size, or tail thickness
– should the contractor decide these dimensions? Should the seals be molded or extruded and are corners required? In addition, the material tensile strength that is specified will have a poor water absorption rating which will shorten the seal life.
A1: The bulb type seal is not necessary for this application. The purpose of the seals is to keep the fish from being impinged between the wall and brail. Reclamation would prefer to copy what is currently installed. Refer to Section 07 91 00, Part 2.01B, "Dimensions of seals listed are approximate; the contractor shall verify dimensions of existing seals prior to ordering." The seals should be molded, corners are not necessary. The current specified tensile strength of the seals listed in Table 07 91 13A is incorrect. The Tensile Strength shall be a minimum of 1,500 psi. Please make a pen and ink correction to the table and Section will be revised in the near future.
Q2: The specification also mentions certified copies of test reports. I was told by one supplier that the cost of the testing will likely be as much as the cost of the seal materials if the specified materials are used. I have attached a couple of supplier recommended seal compounds for Reclamation to consider.
A2: The test report only needs to be like an ICC-ES report that verifies the material compliance to the specified standard. This report can be produced by the manufacturer.
