SOS Project # 23.07c A Study with Recommendations Concrete Porches, Accessibility Ramps, Stairs, and Sidewalks Chicago Driver Services Facilities Cook County, Illinois

23PS729007

PURPOSE:

The Office of the Illinois Secretary of State, Department of Physical Services is in need of Professional Structural, Architectural and/or Engineering Services for a study with repair, renovation, or replacement recommendations of the current condition of the concrete porches, accessibility ramps, sidewalks, and stairs located at SOS’ three (3) Driver Services Facilities at 5401 N. Elston Avenue, 5301 W. Lexington Avenue, and 9901 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue in Chicago Illinois.

HISTORY:

The three (3) Chicago Driver Services Facilities are 27,000 square each foot steel, mortar, brick and stone buildings built in 1958.

PROJECT PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Due to age, use and severe freeze/thaw actions, the existing concrete porches, accessibility ramps, sidewalks, and stairs at the three (3) Chicago Driver Service Facilities are deteriorating faster than our ability to maintain. Evidence of water infiltration in the sleeves that SOS handrails are mounted to, rusting and cracking handrails, and spalled concrete are visible.

PROJECT SCOPE:

The scope of work will include professional structural, architectural and/or engineering services to study the current condition of all concrete at all the Chicago Driver Service Facilities and prepare a report of recommended solutions, repairs, renovations or replacements to all of the problems and/or issues identified. This study must also include an estimated cost of repairs based on the study findings by facility (i.e. a separate report of each of the three (3) facilities).

SCOPE OF A/E WORK:

SOS is looking for professional structural, architectural and/or engineering services to include but not be limited to the following:

· Perform a survey of the current condition of the existing concrete porches at all three (3) Chicago Driver Service Facilities;

· Based on the survey and study, provide a detailed and prioritized list of recommended corrections or repairs to all issues identified; and

· Prepare an estimate of probable repair and construction costs by facility.

EXAMPLES OF POSSIBLE A/E SCOPE ITEMS:

· Confirm condition of existing concrete.

· Provide an opinion of the need for snow melting systems such as melting pads or heaters.
