About this file
This is a Roadside Tree Care Maintenance Authorization document issued by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) in Montgomery County, Maryland, authorizing tree care work necessary for sewer main and manhole rehabilitation in the Silver Spring Paint Branch Basin. The authorization permits pruning of roots and limbs, removal of 4 to 5 trees, planting of 3 to 4 replacement trees, and pruning of approximately 50 trees across fifteen locations including Allerton Lane, Broadmore Circle, Broadmore Place, Broadmore Road, Chilton Circle, Chilton Drive, E. Randolph Road, Jewel Court, Kilgore Road, Kilmore Road, Leister Drive, Morningside Drive, Rigdale Terrace, Smith Village Road, and Tamarack Road. Specific work items include removal of ornamental cherry trees and Norway spruce with stump grinding and replacement planting at multiple Chilton Drive addresses and Tamarack Road, as well as removal and pruning of various shrubs and arborvitae at other locations. The authorization is associated with WSSC Contract No. CI7338A22-CTO 8-4 and the related Chilton Drive Sewer Rehabilitation project, which involves rehabilitation of 1,270 linear feet of sewer mains, 856 linear feet of sewer laterals, and ten manholes. The authorization document was signed by Gary Wallace, a Roadside Tree Care Expert, and expires one year from the date of issuance.
All tree care work must comply with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Roadside Tree Care Law and be performed by a licensed tree care expert under the supervision of a roadside tree care expert in conformance with ANSI A300 standards. Root pruning must be conducted through hand digging, with roots one inch in diameter or greater cut flush on the tree side of the trench. Property owners must be notified at least 48 hours prior to tree removal, and hand digging must be used to expose roots for pruning. The authorization requires consideration of alternative repair and construction methods that avoid open trenching and tree removal as a condition of work. Any tree removal beyond the expressed authorization requires contact with the Environmental Group at 301-206-8077 for a revised authorization. Replacement trees must be planted at specified distances from infrastructure, with ornamental cherry replacements measuring 1.25 to 1.75 caliper and Emerald Green Arborvitae replacements planted in kind at their original locations.
