Request for Proposals #P16PS01997 North Cascades NPS Complex Attachment 5: Clarifications posted with Amendment 2

CORRECTION to Specification Section: 08 1433-2

1.7 Warranty

B. Interior EXTERIOR Doors - Provide manufacturer’s warranty for life of the installation

FIVE YEARS AFTER INSTALLATION.

QUESTIONS:

1) How are the double hung windows counter-balanced or weighted?

The existing historic windows employ a unique spring loaded counter-balance device known as the ACME Twin or Duplex, see attached cutsheet.

2) We noticed blocks holding up the upper sash of the windows. Is the intent of the project to restore the windows to have (2) operable sashes – upper and lower?

Yes, the restored windows should have operable upper and lower sashes.

3) Is the request for interior storm windows an error? Should this be an exterior storm window instead? We are not sure how windows would open if the storm windows are installed on the interior.

We acknowledge that installing interior storm windows will make it difficult to open the windows, but require them anyway. The restored windows are located on the first floor where the uses are visitor services, meeting and a gallery spaces. The intent is to remove the interior storm windows at select first floor windows to provide ventilation in the chiller months. All interior storm windows will be removed and stored over the summer months. The second floor windows will have insulated glass and not require storm windows. The second floor is where year-round staff offices are located and some staff may wish to open their windows in the middle of winter.
