Restore-L VSS Cameras RFP

NNG16582857R

Questions and Answers #1

Reference: Specification RESTORE-L-SPEC-001394, Revision B

Question: Section 3.5.2.2 Data Protocol States VSS camera may utilize up to 4 twisted pairs. Would NASA consider using 5 twisted pairs so that industry standard video protocols such as CameraLink can be used? This would facilitate integration, lowering GSE and life cycle costs.

Answer: No, NASA cannot consider using 5 twisted pairs to support currently existing industry video standards. CameraLink for example, would require a Phase Locked

Loop (PLL) on the receiver side of the link. Due to the high number cameras we expected to utilize on Restore-L, there are not enough PLLs in the receiver's Flight

Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) to support such an architecture.

Question: Section 3.5.5.4 Isolation Requirements Paragraph a) implies there are two independent power feeds. Please confirm that the VSS camera receives its power from two independent power feeds. Also it is assumed that only one power input will be active at any given time, please confirm.

Answer: This particular requirement contains antiquated language from previous revisions. It was written to address sensors systems that may accept power from two independent feeds. To be clear though, this is not the case for the VSS camera. The

VSS camera is not expecting power from two independent power feeds.
