SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE

The following have been added by full text:

AMENDMENT 0002

1. Question: Mechanical drawing M-401 (Note 12) shows four 4-inch gas flue lines from the boilers going out of the mechanical room and into the building. There are no other mechanical drawings that show where these four gas flue lines go once outside of the mechanical room. Architectural drawing A-103 seems to show one roof penetration (Note

5) for a gas flue line. This penetration appears to be a good distance from the mechanical room. The boiler manufacturer needs to know the length of flue piping in order to determine if a power ventilator is necessary. Can the government provide drawings showing the desired routing for the four 4-inch gas flue lines leaving the mechanical room in drawing M-401?

Answer: Continuation of the 4 inch flue/combustion air vents can be found on sheet M- 101 and are annotated with note 16. Each set of flue/combustion vents are terminated at a single roof penetration as show on detail A4 on sheet M-502. The longest run is approximately 60 equivalent feet in length taking into account 5 feet for each elbow.

Power ventilation for the scheduled boilers is not required until vent equivalent exceeds 100 feet.

2. Question: Specification 23 52 43.00 20 paragraph 2.3.17 Venting and Combustion Air, says to provide boiler flue and combustion air intake constructed of Category IV stainless steel. Manufacturer’s recommendation allows for the use of PVC/CPVC in these applications. Can the specification be amended to install boiler flue and combustion air intake using manufacturer recommended materials?

Answer: PVC/CPVC is not acceptable because the design water temperatures do not fall below the point of condensing with the boiler operation at 83% efficiency. At that efficiency the flue gases are too high for PVC/CPVC pipe.

3. Question: Was the RR12 option deleted? It still shows on A701 but is not included in the Contract Line Items (CLINs).

Answer: Yes the RR12 option shown on A701 has been deleted.

4. Question: On CD101, Note #4, it states after completion of subgrade work the follow-on construction of the building footings and slabs shall be delayed a minimum of 30-days.

Please confirm that provided the Contractor has provided compaction tests to document that the required compaction requirements have been achieve they will be allowed to immediately proceed with the footings and slab construction.

Answer: No. They must wait the 30 days. As stated in the geotechnical report - “The proposed single story building may be designed using a conventional shallow foundation system. However, there is a potential for intolerable settlement at the southeast corner of the proposed building footprint due to the planned site grade increase on the order of 5 feet at that location. It will be necessary to delay foundation construction for 30 days following placement of site grading fill in order to achieve the desired post-construction differential settlement tolerances.

5. Question: On S001, Note #10, it states that all structural steel shop drawings shall be prepared under the direct supervision of a registered professional engineer. Please confirm the state the professional engineer is to be registered in North Carolina. Also, it states that all structural steel shop drawings shall be prepared under the direct supervision of a registered professional engineer. Please advise if the requirement for a Registered Professional Engineer applies to the preparation of shop drawings for the Pre-Engineered Metal Building.

Answer: Preferably North Carolina, but it is not necessary. This would apply to all structural steel and to the metal building.

6. Question: On S002, Note #12, it states that for cold formed framing designs the Contractor shall utilize a Professional Engineer who must sign and seal the framing design. Please confirm the state the Professional Engineer is to be registered is North Carolina.

Answer: Preferably North Carolina, but it is not necessary.

7. Question: On E-301at Corridor 124 for door location 124 there is no mention of Card

Reader or Balanced Magnetic Switch as is the case at all other Exterior Doors. Is this correct?

Answer: No, provide the rough-in for a Card Reader and Balance Magnetic switch as shown for all other exterior doors and per keynote 10 at the exterior door of corridor 124.
