About this file

This document is Addendum No. 1 for Project MZ-0079, issued by the City of Oklahoma City Public Works Department for the Oklahoma City Zoo Elephant Shade Structures project. The addendum modifies the original bid package, providing changes to technical specifications, particularly related to steel surface treatment. Key modifications include replacing original steel finish notes with new requirements for media blasting steel surfaces and applying a Sculpt Nouveau brand patina finish. The document also addresses contractor questions regarding project details, such as confirming in-ground column mounting, building permit processes, and clarifying that no additional shade will be added to paddock 1.

The addendum does not disclose the project's total budget, as noted in the response to Question #1, which states it is not the City's policy to publish construction estimates. The project involves constructing shade structures for elephant enclosures, with specific technical requirements for steel surface preparation and finishing. Contractors are advised that the Zoo has already submitted drawings for permit review, and the successful bidder will be responsible for picking up and paying for the building permit. The document emphasizes that project dimensions are specified in the contract documents, and lead times for materials like fabrics can be 10-12 weeks, with field measurements typically occurring after structure installation.

2.0 Questions and Answers

Question #1 Is there an engineer’s estimate or budget/range for this project?

Answer: It is not the City’s policy to publish construction estimates or budgets for projects.

Question #2 Winning bidder will be required to remove and reinstall the 4” pipe above the gate to enable the entry of the pier drill, correct?

Answer: If the 4” pipe above the gate must be removed for the contractor’s equipment access, it will be the responsibility of the contractor to remove and replace the pipe.

Question #3 G1.0 Notes specifies Sherwin Williams B58W00610 Epoxy Primer. S1.0 8.B.4.A specifies the surface be blasted and primed with a zinc-rich primer. Which detail should be followed regarding primer?

Answer: Epoxy Primer.

Question #4 To clarify, the City and Zoo would like these columns to be inground mount and not recessed pier mounted?

Answer: That is correct. A separate pier will not be used. A full length pipe column will extend the full length for each column.

Question #5 Will manufacturer powder coat be acceptable?

Answer: Powder coat finish is not acceptable. The steel finish is being changed. Please see revised steel finish within Addendum No. 1.

Question #6 Will there be an addendum released to reflect the additional shade at paddock 1 as discussed in the pre-bid?

Answer: No. Bid per the current documents.

Question #7 Will Contractors be required to go through plan review process for an OKC building permit with engineered drawing submittal?

Answer: The Zoo has submitted drawings for permit review. The contractor will be responsible for picking up and paying for the building permit.

Question #8 parts 1 thru 4 What is the intended performance period for this project?

Answer: Refer to the bid documents.

Will there be liquidated damages?

Answer: Refer to the bid documents.

This project has long lead items such as design and permitting that need to be accomplished before construction begins.

Answer: The contractor is to construct the project per the contract documents. The Zoo has filed for the building permit and expects the permit to be ready for the successful bidder to pick up and pay for upon contract execution.

Also, lead time on fabrics can be 10-12 weeks and this is typically field measured after structure installation.

Answer: The project dimensions are called out within the contract documents.

Please revise your bid documents to reflect these changes.
