SUBMITTED BY: MADSEN ROOFING & WATERPROOFING
1) Section 01 50 00 [Temporary Facilities and Controls] 1.6, D. Office Trailer. Is it a requirement that the contractor has an onsite office trailer, or is this optional?
2) Section 01 50 00 [Temporary Facilities and Controls] 1.6, D. Office trailer. If an onsite trailer is required, will full time staffing of office also be required? Does office staff personnel have to be the project manager or other responsible individual, or can onsite office staff be administrative/clerical worker?
3) Section 02 41 00 [Demolition] Will bidders are provided information regarding what the existing roof assemblies [steep slope and low slope assemblies] are comprised of, ie.: roof core sample information?
This is critical in determining costs related to demolition labor, landfills, etc.
Other than what was indicated on the original construction documents, there is not any additional information available as to the existing roof assemblies. No core samples have been taken.
Institution did not know on the low roofs, but on the sloped asphalt shingle roofs the institution indicated that the roofs had been reroofed once.
4) Section 02 41 00 [Demolition] Is there any asbestos, lead containing paint, or other hazardous material present that will have to be removed and disposed of?
CLARIFICATION: The contractor is not required to have a job site trailer on site. It is unknown if there is any asbestos, lead containing paints or other hazardous material present.
5) Section 07 60 00 [Flashing and Sheet Metal] 1.8, A, 1.-2. Special Warranty on Finishes 1. Exposed
Panel Finish a-c and 2. Warranty Period 20 years. This information would seem to indicate that 20 year warranted paint finish [ i.e. KYNAR 500/HYLAR 5000 or similar] is required on the architectural sheet metal flashings [copings, edge flashings, downspouts, etc.]. However there is a reference to “Exposed
Panel Finish” as if this description would be relevant to metal roof panels as opposed to architectural sheet metal flashings.
CHANGE: Delete section 07 60 00 /1.8/A – Add the following:
A. Warranty on Galvanized Finish: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair finish or replace sheet metal flashing and trim that shows evidence of deterioration of factory-applied finishes within specified warranty period.
1. Warranty Period: 20 years from date of Project completion.
6) Section 07 60 00 [Flashing and Sheet metal] Pt. 2, 2.1, A., 1. “…mil phosphatized for field painting.”
This indicates that the sheet metal is to be a “Bonderized,” “Paint Grip,” “Jet Kote,” or similar treated
[mill phosphatized} type and then be field painted. This contradicts the requirement of a factory applied
20 year paint finish sheet metal. Is the sheet metal utilized for fabrication of architectural sheet metal flashings to be mill phosphatized and then field painted, or is to have a factory applied 20 year warranted paint finish?
CLARIFICATION: Field painting is acceptable.
7) If the sheet metal flashings are to be field painted, what is the warranty requirement for the paint finish?
CLARIFICATION: Warranty is to be 20 years.
8) Section 07 60 00 [ Flashing and Sheet Metal] Pt. 2 , 2.1, A, 1. States that the sheet metal is to be field painted. Would it be permissible to paint the metal flashings off-site, in contractors shop for example, and then touch-up the paint as necessary [to cover/conceal damage to paint finish during handling and installation] in the field after installation?
CLARIFICATION: Yes.
9) Section 07 60 00 [Flashings and Sheet Metal] Part 2, 2.3, A. Item A. Indicates that the sheet metal is to be mill phosphatized for paint finish in accordance with section 09 90 00. There is no section 09 90 00 included in the specification. Will a section 09 90 00 be issued?
CHANGE: See attached Specification Section 09 90 00.
10) Section 07 60 00 [Flashing and Sheet Metal] Pt. 2, 2.1F. , 3., A&B Reglets. The products mentioned are manufactured item that typically are not made in 20 gauge or with a mill phosphatized finish. Is it permissible to furnish and install these items in the manufactured standard available, i.e.: 24 gauge galvanized or factory applied KYHNAR paint finish?
CLARIFICATION: Yes.
11) Where does housing unit C end and where does housing Unit D begin?
CLARIFICATION: The work for housing unit C does not include the triangular flat roof between units C&D. The scope of work for Housing Unit D includes the triangular flat roof area between
Housing Unit C and Housing D.
12) In the specifications we are told to provide a fence and we were showed the back side of the housing unit. My question is how big of an area are we required to fence in? Is there a minimum or a maximum space we can fence in?
CLARIFICATION: A 40’ x 40’ area is the maximum space available.
