QUESTION ANSWER
Volume 4 Drawing B.51.1.01 - Are there any lateral load limits on the geothermal wells that are located within the building footprint of venue RO4 – 100M Outdoor Range? If the wells are installed prior to the structural steel, there could be significant loads imposed during the steel erection.
There are no lateral load limits available from either the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) or the UK Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA). However, there is some limited risk of damage to constructed boreholes following the placement of the structural steel load. We have discussed this potential risk with knowledgeable geotechnical engineers who have advised that us there should be no reliance on the boreholes to resist the lateral loads from the steel structure. In addition, presuming that the in-situ soil strength is sufficient, on its own, to resist bearing failure from the lateral load with adequate factor of safety, the contractor should demonstrate that the construction sequencing does not change the conditions during temporary works.
We also wish to point out that the headering / conveyance piping would be expected to have less tolerance to lateral loads than the vertical heat exchange piping and boreholes (due to the nature of electrofusion jointing along the headering pipes). In our experience, the headering piping is connecting after the placement of the structural steel, thus avoiding the impact of the placement of the steel on the headering piping. We recommend that the construction sequence be reviewed to identify if there is a potential risk to the integrity of the heading piping.

92 Volume 1, Part A, Drawing C.00.5.02 – Please provide the gravel thickness for the D05 West Access Road.
The D05 West Access Road pavement section shall be 14” of 21-A. Refer to revised Sheet C.00.5.02, Addendum B.
Is it intended that the materials for site grading designated as select fill and select material at various locations in the plans and specs are meant to be imported material or meant to be found on site?
If select materials are present on site the material may be used in construction. Additionally, with concurrence of the A/E and Government, the Contractor may borrow from areas within the LOD for select material and spoil unsuitable material so long as the requirements of the specifications are met and all grades match the finished grade at completion of the contract.
94 Is there a detail for the Hill Climb shown on page CJ.06.1.01 in volume 1? Is it the same as the hill climb shown on CJ.06.1.02?
The Hill Climb obstacle shown on Sheet CJ.06.1.02 is detailed on Sheet CJ.06.5.05. The Hill Climb shown on Sheet CJ.06.1.01 is a natural hill climb. The only Contractor work proposed is to clear undergrowth and provide the circuit through the woods over a naturally steep portion of existing terrain.
