C. Low voltage heat-shrink insulation: NEMA 119.1, heavy wall, sealant coated tube or wrap-around sleeve, 600 volt insulating, abrasion resistant, listed for direct burial.
D. Low voltage gel insulation: NEMA 119.1, molded housing or wrap-around sleeve, pre-filled with insulating gel to conform to complex surfaces and displace moisture, 90°C operating temperature, listed for direct burial.
2.3 OTHER CONNECTION MATERIALS
A. Conductive anti-seize compound: Homogenized blend of colloidal copper and rust and corrosion inhibitor that flows easily into the thread.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 CONNECTOR AND TERMINAL APPLICATION
A. Crimp and compression type terminals shall not be used for solid conductors.
B. Stranded conductors shall be terminated using approved terminals. Do not place stranded conductors directly under screws.
C. Conductors larger than 10 AWG shall be connected and terminated using only mechanical or compression type connectors and terminals.
D. Equipment connections subject to high vibration shall be made using stranded wire and approved ring-tongue type terminals. Terminations using solid wire or fork-tongue terminals shall not be acceptable in these areas.
ANZY069026 26 51 00-3
E. Size lugs in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Install 2-hole type lugs to connect wires 4 AWG and larger to copper bus bars.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Clean conductor surfaces prior to installing lugs or connectors.
B. Make splices, taps, and terminations to carry full ampacity of conductors with no perceptible temperature rise.
C. All splice connections shall be fully insulated using materials and methods as specified herein.
D. All wire nut connections shall be taped using three layers to seal against moisture and loosening due to vibration.
E. Where practicable, electrical tape shall not be used for insulating. Use other methods as specified. Where tape insulation is necessary, it shall be made to 150 percent of conductor insulation rating.
F. Motor terminations and other connections likely to require re-entry shall not be insulated using tape.
G. Where terminal lugs are fastened together on motors, transformers, and other apparatus, or when terminal space may allow rotation of terminals into each other, insulate using materials and methods as specified herein.
H. Conductive anti-seize compound shall be used on all fuse ferrules and blades, switch wiping contacts, ground connections, and all copper-to-copper lugs and connections.
