| Source Type | List | List | List | Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) is a Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) term for commercial items available in the commercial marketplace that can be bought and used under government contract. Non-Developmental Item (NDI) according to (FAR 2.101) means: |
1.Any previously developed item of supply used exclusively for governmental purposes by a Federal agency, a State or local government, or a foreign government with which the United States has a mutual defense cooperation agreement;
2.Any item described in paragraph (1) of this definition that requires only minor modification or modifications of a type customarily available in the commercial marketplace in order to meet the requirements of the procuring department or agency; or
| 3.Any item of supply being produced that does not meet the requirements of paragraphs (1) or (2) solely because the item is not yet in use.A Build item is a component that is not commercially available and that requires design, development and test effort before suitable for operational deployment. | 1.1.1.2 | Software Release 1…n | The resources associated with the PMP subsystem software that is associated with the PMP subsystem for release 1…n. A software release is an aggregate of one or more CSCIs that satisfies a specific set or subset of requirements. When incremental, spiral, or other software development methods are used, multiple releases may be necessary to meet program requirements. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1.1.1.2.1 | CSCI (1…n) | See Software Development Template | See Software Development Template | See Software Development Template | A release is a separately tested and delivered product. Within releases are CSCIs. When a release is complete, a portion or all of one or more CSCIs will be completed. Therefore, a CSCI may appear in one or more releases, but will be successively more functional as each release is completed | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Software Language | Text | Text | Text | The predominant computer language in which the development was conducted. | CEMVocab | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 2 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Product Size - Delivered | SLOC | SLOC | SLOC | The delivered size of the product developed, not including any code that was needed to assist development but was not delivered (such as temporary stubs, test scaffoldings, or debug statements). SLOC shall reflect logical size, as opposed to physical, etc. | CEMVocab | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 2 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Product Size - Effective | SLOC | The equivalent size for the adjusted size of the product developed. | CEMVocab | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| New Code | SLOC | SLOC | SLOC | The delivered size of the product developed that is human generated. | CEMVocab | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Modified Code | SLOC | SLOC | SLOC | Modified code is defined as pre-developed code that can be incorporated in the software component with a significant amount of effort, but less effort than required for a newly developed code. | CEMVocab | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Reused Code | SLOC | SLOC | SLOC | Code from external sources (government-furnished or otherwise) that is included and resused without modification. However, there may be an amount of retest required. | CEMVocab | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Carryover Code | SLOC | SLOC | X | X | X | X | Contractor | Pre-existing code that has already been introduced into the baseline for this software product during a previous build. For example, if code from Build 1 is continued in the baseline for Build 2, it is likely to require additional effort for functional and regression testing during the delivery of Build 2. Carryover code is different from "reused" code from a separate program or source as the effort to understand and get it integrated into this program's baseline has already occured in an earlier build for this program. | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 2 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Auto-generated code | SLOC | SLOC | X | X | X | X | Contractor | New code that is automatically generated using a code generating tool. These tools will generate many lines for each selection or instruction typed by a human. It is important to keep this separate from human generated new code because effort per line of code is much less for autogenerated than human generated (i.e., if included it would over estimate effort if used in a parametric model or a productivity-based estimate; if included as the basis of a productivity metric for future use it will understate the effort required if the new system has only human generated code). | X | X | X | X | Contractor | 3 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1.1.1.3 | Subsystem Integration | All of the resources in order to perform integration, assembly, test, and check out of the PMP.
