Questions and Answers
1. On the Roof Mechanical/Electrical Demolition Plan under the electrical work notes #7 it states “ disconnect and remove all lightning protection down conductors.” According to the elevation demolition drawings provided it notes that the existing wall panels are to remain. Please confirm that this is correct and they indeed want the existing exposed down leads removed. If they want the existing lightning protection system down leads removed who is removing this material? Would your customer like us to provide a pricing for the removal of the existing down leads along with the existing system on the roof or is a separate party removing this material?
2. With this being an existing building and I’m assuming the existing landscape around the building is complete with concrete/asphalt etc. Would they like us to tie in to the existing grounding from the old system or would they like us to include provisions to install a new grounding system ( ground ring, ground rods etc.).
Answer: No new lightning protection work is required for this project. Existing lightning protection system will be removed to the extent possible without removing the existing wall panels (in accordance with the demolition notes
3. Can the roofing be substituted with Duralap PVC roofing. This was used on the recent roof project Bldg. 500
Answer: No. The project has to be constructed, as designed, with an EPDM membrane.
4. Can the roof construction be phased into one section at a time?
Answer: Yes, up to the offeror.
5. Does the entire fence need to be constructed as shown in the plans?
Answer: No, fencing can be phased in coordination with the construction.
1. What is the existing roofing under metal panels, specs and plans have different info , like insulation varies; is it tapered ?
2. Specs have contradicting info on what the NEW cover bd is to be and how to install it. Wood fiber ? Gyp BD ? Adhered or screwed
3. Thermal insulation section- where does this section relate too?
4. Section 028200 Asbestos removal- nothing is marked on any plans like spec states , do we need this 8500 SF removal ?
5. Protection sheet - Installed where ?
6. Liquid membrane - installed where ?
7. What is the existing vapor barrier ?
Answers: 1. Refer to pages 42-44 (previously attached). This is what the base knows about the existing roof.
2. Cover board as referenced in section 075323 para 2.5.C (and to be amended to "ASTM C 1177/C 1177M, glass-mat, water resistant gypsum substrate, 1/2 inch (13mm) thick") shall also be used as substrate board where substrate board is required.
3. Refer to spec section 1.2 A, and the note on sheet 4 of dwgs, Detail 1/A2.1.
4. We don't know. Roof was not tested for ACM. The 8,500 SF is a quantity if some of the insulation needs to be removed and to provide for testing of any roof materials for asbestos during demolition. In short, yes, it is needed.
7. Refer to pages 42-44. This is what the base knows about the existing roof.
5 and 6 -- Paragraph 2.5 is a general listing of auxiliary roofing materials which may or may not be needed or used on any roofing project, depending on manufacturer's requirements/details or encountered conditions. So, not everything listed here is used in this project. Item C. is not needed for this project, it's a protective layer applied to the top of the roof membrane to protect it from grease, oil, etc. generally used around rooftop equipment that can transfer such things to the roof top (over kitchens, etc.). Item J. may or may not be needed depending on the roofing manufacturer. If it is, for certain details or conditions encountered, this tells them what to use. We did not have any specific details that show this material.
