2.2 PIPING MATERIALS:

2.2.1 Refer to Part 3 "Piping Applications" Article for applications of pipe, fitting, and joining materials.

2.3 PVC PIPE AND FITTINGS:

2.3.1 PVC Pressure Pipe: ASTM D 2241, SDR 21, with a minimum working pressure of 200 psig, with gasketed bell and spigot joints and ASTM F 477, elastomeric seals.

2.3.1.1 Fittings: Ductile-iron fittings complying with AWWA C110 for full body mechanical joint fittings and using AWWA C111 rubber gaskets.

Connections shall be with stainless steel bolts.

2.3.1.2 Fittings: All fittings shall be in-line. No saddle-type fittings will be permitted.

*2.3.2 PVC Gravity Pipe: ASTM D-3034, SDR-26.

2.4 HDPE PIPE AND FITTINGS:

*2.4.1 HDPE Pressure Pipe: ASTM F 714, DR 9, with butt-fusion joints and a minimum working pressure of 200 psi.

2.4.1.1 Fittings: HDPE fused fittings. At pipe material transitions, HDPE flange adapters shall be fused to the end of the HDPE pipe and connections shall be with stainless steel bolts.

2.5 PIPE COUPLINGS:

2.5.1 Reducing or transition, metal, bolted, sleeve-type, reducing or transition coupling, for joining underground pressure piping. Include 150-psig minimum pressure rating and ends of same sizes as piping to be joined.

2.5.2 Tubular-Sleeve Couplings: AWWA C219, with center sleeve, gaskets, end rings, and bolt fasteners.

2.5.2.1 Manufacturers:

2.5.2.1.1 Hymax

2.5.2.2 Center-Sleeve Material: Manufacturer’s standard.

2.5.2.3 Gasket Material: Natural or synthetic rubber.

2.5.2.4 Metal Component Finish: Corrosion-resistant coating or material.

2.6 CONCRETE:

2.6.1 General: Cast-in-place concrete according to ACI 318/318R, ACI 350R, and the following:

*REVISION 02530-2

REVISION QJVF 08-1005

14 SEP 09

2.6.1.1 Cement: ASTM C 150, Type II.

2.6.1.2 Fine Aggregate: ASTM C 33, sand.

2.6.1.3 Coarse Aggregate: ASTM C 33, crushed gravel.

2.6.1.4 Water: Potable.

2.6.2 Portland Cement Design Mix: 3000 psi minimum, with 0.45 maximum water/cementitious materials ratio.

3. EXECUTION:

3.1 EARTHWORK:

3.1.1 Excavating, trenching, and backfilling are specified in other Division 2 Sections.

3.2 PIPING APPLICATIONS:

3.2.1 Pipe couplings and special pipe fittings with pressure ratings at least equal to piping rating may be used in applications below, unless otherwise indicated.

3.2.1.1 Where two ends of the sewer main (gravity or force main) are to be joined and where the hub and spigot do not match up, use a rigid, pressure-type coupling.

3.2.2 Force-Main Pressure Pipe: Use any of the following pipe materials:

3.2.2.1 ASTM D 2241, SDR 21, with a minimum working pressure of 200 psig, with gasketed bell and spigot joints and ASTM F 477, elastomeric seals.

3.2.2.2 HDPE, ASTM F 714 DR 11, with butt-fusion joints and a minimum working pressure of 160 psig.

3.3 PIPING INSTALLATION:

3.3.1 General Locations and Arrangements: Drawing plans and details indicate general location and arrangement of underground sanitary sewerage piping. Location and arrangement of piping layout take design considerations into account. Install piping as indicated on the Drawings, unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. Where specific installation is not indicated, follow piping manufacturer's written instructions.

3.3.2 Install piping beginning at low point, true to grades and alignment indicated with unbroken continuity of invert. Place bell ends of piping facing upstream. Install gaskets, seals, sleeves, and couplings according to manufacturer's written instructions for using lubricants, cements, and other installation requirements.

3.3.3 Install proper size increasers, reducers, and couplings where different sizes or materials of pipes and fittings are connected.

*REVISION 02530-3

3.3.4 Directional boring: The Contractor may install HDPE pipe by pipe bursting or directional boring.

3.4 CONCRETE PLACEMENT:

3.4.1 Place cast-in-place concrete according to ACI 318/318R.

3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL:

3.5.1 Test new piping systems, and parts of existing systems that have been altered, extended, or repaired, for leaks and defects.

3.5.1.1 Do not enclose, cover, or put into service before inspection and approval by the Contracting Officer.

3.5.1.2 Force Main: The Contractor shall perform hydrostatic test after thrust blocks, supports, and anchors have hardened. Test at pressure not less than 100 psig for a period of 8 hours.

3.5.2 Leaks and loss in test pressure constitute defects that must be repaired at no cost to the Government.

3.5.3 Replace leaking piping using new materials, and repeat testing until leakage is within allowances specified.

3.6 CLEANING:

3.6.1 Clean interior of piping of dirt and superfluous material.
