About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Wrong Way Detection contract opportunity at Keesler Air Force Base. The Q&A addresses multiple technical and logistical aspects of the project, including sensor technologies, communication requirements, infrastructure mounting, power connections, and system specifications. Key details include: wireless communication is not permitted, mounting on existing infrastructure is possible with approval, power sources are located at guard shacks, boring is the preferred method for power connections, and the existing system at Pass Road will be removed. The contract requires contractors to provide a standard warranty and maintenance period, demonstrate consideration of driver sight distances, and be prepared for potential 6-9 month material lead times. The project involves installing vehicle detection systems with illuminated warning signs at multiple gate locations, with specific attention to relocatability and compliance with safety regulations.

Question # Question SFS Response

Are other sensor technologies outside of Radar and in-ground loop allowed for this contract? Please quote IAW the SOW.

Is wireless communication between the vehicle detection system and the illuminated warning sign allowed? If so, does that communication need to be encrypted?

Wireless connection is not permitted.

Is mounting to the existing gate infrastructure allowed or does everything require its own dedicated pole?

Mounting on existing infrastructure is possible, subject to approval. The proposed mounting solution must not obstruct existing security systems and must comply with safety regulations. Relocatability is essential for the system installed at Gate 7 (Pass Road) due to the planned gate overhaul.

How long of a warranty and maintenance does the contractor need to provide?

The SOW requires a "standard warranty and maintenance" period. Quotes should specify the duration and terms of this warranty and maintenance plan.

5 Where are the actual power locations? Power sources are located at the guard shacks at each location.

Does Keesler AFB have specifications for the sign system, including dimensions, materials, and technical requirements?

Please quote IAW the SOW.

Is there a pre-determined design for sign placement, including sighting distances for drivers, or will our company need to develop a design based on traffic engineering principles?

The provided map indicates the preferred locations. Quotes should demonstrate consideration of driver sight distances and traffic engineering principles for optimal sign placement. Alternative placement proposals are welcome, provided they are justified with supporting rationale.

In order to connect power we would need to either bore to the other side or cut out the concrete.

Which one Keesler would prefer?

Boring is the preferred method, if needed.

Lead time on material can be an exes of 6-9 months and this has a short working day lead time. Will this be taken into consideration?

Contractors provide the delivery time.

At the Pass Rd location, power is on the opposite side of the street. How would Keesler like us to connect power?

Boring to the guard shack and Penetrating the south side of the building is the preferred method for power connection. If boring is necessary, prior coordination is required for traffic flow.

What will be done with the current system at the Pass Rd location?

The existing system will be removed.
