QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS 1-17

Questions: Site Visit FA3010-18-R-0018, MAHG17-1084

1. The SOW it states “Modify all the electrical conduit and wiring”, but the notes on the drawing M2.0 is calling for the “conduit and wiring to be demo from unit to the respective panel”. Is the contractor required only to modify the existing circuits and provide new conduits from the mean of disconnect to the VDF and to the AHU or is requirement to provide all new conduit and conductors from the existing panel to each of the new AHUs? If new conduit is required back to existing panels, can scalable drawing be provided to show the location of the existing panels?

ANSWER: AHU 6 and 7 contractor is to provide new conduit and conductors from existing feed to VFD and from VFD to AHU. Reuse existing conduit and conductors from mechanical room to panel/MCC. AHU 9a will require new conduit and conductors to be run from MCC to mechanical room, as well as new conductors and conduit from VFD to AHU.

A scalable drawing is attached that shows the approximate area of the existing MCC and AHU 9a (note that the MCC is on the second floor and AHU 9a is on the first floor). See attachment 11

2. Are there any phasing requirements for this AHU replacement? If so, please provide the phasing requirements for the AHU that are to be removed?

ANSWER: Project is to be phased in order to minimize impact on building occupants. As such, only one working AHU will allowed to be taken out of service at a time. Contractor will work with owner/occupants to determine order of phasing.

3a. Drawing M5.0 central station air handling unit schedule note 3 calls for providing an ultraviolet light fixture in the return of each of the new AHU. Is the UV fixture going to be provided as part of the new AHU or is it going to be provided and field installed by the electrical contractor?

ANSWER: UV light kit provided by AHU manufacturer and installed by electrical contractor.

3b. What is the voltage requirement for these light fixture? Can the UV light fixture circuit need to be tied into the existing mechanical room light circuit?

ANSWER: 120V. Yes, the UV light fixture can be tied into the existing mechanical room light circuit.

3c. Will a single pole light switch require to be installed on the outside of the AHU as a means of disconnect for servicing the UV light fixture?

ANSWER: Yes, a single pole light switch is required to be installed on the outside of the AHU as a means of disconnect for servicing. The contractor is also required to install a door safety switch on the AHU compartment containing the UV light to de-energize the UV fixture.

3d. If the electrical contractor is to provide these fixtures are a cut sheet or a catalog number available for the fixture type?

ANSWER: The UV light fixture is to be provide by AHU manufacturer.

4. Can a glasses breaker E‐Stop Buttons be used for this project?

ANSWER: No, A glass breaker E-Stop is not allowed. However, the contractor is to provide an E-Stop button with a cover.

5. Is the cabling for the E‐stop button to be installed in free air or does the cable require it to be installed in conduit?

ANSWER: Plenum cable in free air is acceptable. Cable is to be run at 90° angles, parallel and perpendicular to building walls.

6. Is the e‐stop button need to install flush in the wall or surface mounted?

ANSWER: Surface mount is acceptable.

7. What type of cable is required for the E‐stop button?

ANSWER: plenum rated 18/2 with shield.

8. During the site visit it was made aware that they’re fire alarm duct detector installed in the duct work of AHU 7 and 6, and the duct detector and the duct detector for AHU 9A appear to be installed in the AHU on the supply side.

There is nothing mentioned in the statement of work or the drawings addressing whether the duct detectors are to be removed and reinstall. Is the contractor required to remove and reinstall the fire alarm duct detector?

ANSWER: Contractor is required to remove and reinstall the fire alarm duct detectors.

9. Is the contractor going to be required to install duct detector test switches to test the AHU shut down?

ANSWER: No.

10. Is it required to tie the duct detectors into each new VFD’s so that each AHU shuts down if smoke is detected?

ANSWER: Yes, safety circuit wiring by controls contractor.

11. Is the contractor required to test the duct detectors with the AHU after the work has been completed on each of the AHU?

ANSWER: Yes, general contractor is to coordinate with controls contractor and KAFB fire alarm shop for testing.

12. Are any additional duct detectors required to be installed for the new duct work or is the contractor to reinstall the same number of duct detectors that are currently installed?

ANSWER: No new duct detectors required. Contractor is to remove and reinstall existing duct detectors.

13. Who is the manufacture of the building fire alarm system?

ANSWER: SIEMENS.

14. Will the contractor be required to provide any temporary cooling unit for any area while the AHU are off be replaced?

ANSWER: No.

15. The SOW and the drawings call for AHU 13 to be replaced. Drawing M5.0 central station air handling unit schedule is missing the information for AHU 13? Is it possible for you to provide the requirement (example Voltage, CFM) for AHU 13?

ANSWER: AHU 13 is not being replaced (it is being removed). AHU 9a replaces both AHU 9 and 13.

16. Will a duct detector and a test switch be required to install the duct work for AHU 13?

ANSWER: See ANSWER 15.

17. Drawing E11.0 note 13 is requiring drip shield to be installed over the VFD’s, are drips required to be installed over the VFD’s as part of the SOW?

ANSWER: Drip shields must be installed if the VFDs are installed under chilled water or heating hot water pipe.
