Questions and Answers Cooling Tower
1. Please provide referenced information undery key note 9 (Complete Section 1.1.5.2 commissioning and closeout sequence of work) on sheet 3 of 3.
Section 1.1.5.2 is defined in the Statement of Work.
2. Is testing and balancing by a qualified independent test & balance firm required?
Yes, AABS or NEBB certified.
3. Sheet 3 of 3 key note 3 states to match existing paint. Do you know the existing coating system in place?
1 coat enamel primer, 1 topcoat enamel Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams: Keesler Youth Center Bronze
4. Is there any existing lead based paint?
No
5. Is open sand blasting allowed?
No, blasting media must be contained to prevent contamination of air and surrounding building and machinery. After containment it must be collected and disposed of properly.
6. Are there any restrictions on blast media? Some facilities do not allow sand, black beauty, etc.
Use sand. In addition, read below;
For questions 4-6 that are environmental related, I have attached the standard environmental packet information packet. Specific to storm water, the contractor should install BMPs capable of protecting KAFB storm water collection system quality so that sediment and paint does not leave with storm water. Based on the year (1999) and the color (brown), we feel certain that there is no issue with lead. However, in the event that there is other paint (especially yellow) encountered underneath the brown paint, then the work should cease until the paint is tested.
Please make sure that the paint and blasting media sand is collected by the contractor and disposed of properly off-base.
