Low Voltage Cabling – IT
- Are we (contractor) going to replace all the current cabling with New CAT 6 cabling?
Yes.
- Do we (contractor) need to provide additional trays to go across the ceiling or will simple hooks be allowed?
J-hooks or cable tray will be acceptable. Installed cabled should not run loose in ceiling area or be strung across the top of light fixtures.
- Do we (contractor) need to pull back and dispose of the old cabling or just cut it off and leave it in the walls/ceilings?
Pull back and dispose of cables. In the area where the cables leave the tray and enter the pipe/conduit in b431 rm 121, cut the cables at the pipe/conduit and leave remnants in pipe and seal.
- Should we (contractor) plan to run cabling to the new offices, new printer areas and conference rooms?
Yes.
- During the walk through I believe there is an area that needs at least six fiber runs, are there an other areas that need fiber (private offices)?
B430, rm 121 is the only area requiring fiber. Total fiber to be installed at end-state is 24 runs;
can reuse current installed if current length is compatible.
Electrical
- During the walk through it was noted that additional workstation were being added to each room and that an electrical assessment has been done by the government and no additional circuits would be needed. If we bid just to move the electrical from the raised floor to the ceiling and additional breakers or sub panels are needed, will those costs be amended at a later date?
Additional circuits will be needed for the additional loads. Panelboard schedules are attached.
Furniture
- Will there be three phases to this project?
Yes. This allows personnel to relocate and operate while different areas are being worked.
- The specification call for a (3) spot plug, can we substitute a duplex as long as we can meet the electrical requirements?
Provide two (2) duplex receptacles instead of triplex located 3-4 feet apart.
- Is the DRMO site on the base?
No. There is a collection point on base to transport items to the actual DRMO site.
Contractual
- Can the contract be set up with three CLINS (CLIN per phase)?
(Yes. We can structure the contract in phase based CLINs)
- Can we bill incrementally based on the phase/CLIN?
(Yes. You will be able to bill off of each CLIN phase)
- Bid states Total Small Business with a manufacturing NAIC code. Will this contract flow through requiring all manufactures and service companies to be small? Or is this going to just be the contract holder has to be small?
(Just the contract holder has to be small)
Was the walkthrough mandatory to bid on this project?
No.
1. The email requirements varied a little from the stated walk-through requests. Can you clarify if they want 4 or 5 Copper to each location for job "Building 431, Room 121"?
Install 4 copper.
2. For the demo part of "Building 431, Room 121", there was a question posed at the walk-through about how far/how much of the old cable needs to demo'd. There is a part where the old cable runs underground through a pathway that will not be used for the new cabling. Some wondered if we could just demo the old cable back to the point where the cable goes underground into the pathway that will not be used for the new cabling OR if we need to do a full demo of all cable, including the cable that goes underground. Please, get confirmation of what process we should follow on this part of the job.
Cut wires at the point where they enter the pipes/conduit/pathway and then seal. Pull back and dispose of old cables. DO NOT BREAK CONCRETE to access/modify cables.
3. BUILDING 430, ROOM 121: We are looking for clarification about the AeroNet workstations in Building
430. Our paperwork calls for copper and multi-mode fiber, but we were told at the walk-through that each station only needs (3) Cat6. Can you confirm which requirements are needed for this part of the job?
Disregard Aeronet naming. Pull 4 copper at all desks in 430/121. Local IT will patch to applicable network after installation.
1. The SOW states corner work surface but drawings shows only straight surfaces with no corner. Is a corner surface preferred?
Corner surface preferred.
2. The SOW states triplexes are required but most manufacturers don’t do triplex. Are duplexes acceptable?
Install (2) duplex receptacles at least 4’ apart instead of 1 triplex.
3. The SOW states Two Data and one Phone jack however during the site walkthrough, however majority of the current in place cubicles had 4 data lines at each station. Would you like for us to quote 4 data jacks or 3?
One quad port at each cubicle with cables taken all the way to the Comm Room. Connect required cables only. Use multi-mode fiber where required.
The SOW is written that all electrical and communication items are budgetary and to be confirmed after award. In order to make this an apples to apples comparison, are you willing to establish those budgetary items prior to initial offer so bids are truly comparable. The only true delta will be the cost of furniture and labor.
