ABS Comments Regarding New Chiller Installation Contractor to be able to answer the Comments at time of the ABS Survey

Hi Jim, We didn’t really have the time to talk about the ABS approvals in detail. The ABS stamped drawings and the ABS letter (attached) are on the CD. There are 6 ABS comments, all but E-002 are for the surveyor to verify:

E-001 Motor overload protection set between 100 to 125% of the motor rated current for continuous rated motors is to be provided for all motors (A/C compressors) in accordance with 4-8-2/9.17.2 of the SVR. Please resolve.

E-002 Undervoltage release or protection is to be provided for the motor loads (A/C compressors) in accordance with 4-8-2/9.17.3 and 9.17.4 of the SVR. Please resolve.

E-003 The degree of protection for the new electrical equipment (e.g. junction boxes, compressors, etc.)

is to be suitable for its location in accordance with 4-8-4/1.3 of the SVR

E-004 Cable installation, such as junction boxes (installation and construction) and equipment earthing is to be to the satisfaction of our attending Surveyor in accordance with 4-8-3/9.21, 4-8-4/21 and 4-8- 4/23.3 of the SVR. If new cable penetrations and/or cable splices are used, evidence of approval/certification is to be provided and submitted for technical review.

P-001 As per 4-6-2/5.7.5 (b) of the Rules, all flexible hoses are to be type burst test to withstand a pressure not less than four (4) times its design pressure. Please present all relevant certification to the attending Surveyor.

P-002 As per 4-6-2/9.9.3 of the Rules pressure relief valves are to be set at pressures not exceeding the piping design pressure. The surveyor is requested to verify.

E-002 is equipment that will come with the new chiller units and thus we cannot answer the ABS question at this time. I think the surveyor would have no problem clearing this item, but if you let me know when the equipment is ordered I can draft a response to ABS.
