Scan the construction site with electromagnetic or sonic equipment, and mark the surface of the ground or paved surface where existing underground utilities or utilities encased in pier structures are discovered.

1. Verify the elevations of existing piping, utilities, and any type of underground or encased obstruction not indicated to be specified or removed but indicated or discovered during scanning in locations to be traversed by piping, ducts, and other work to be conducted or installed. Verify elevations before installing new work closer than nearest manhole or other structure at which an adjustment in grade can be made.

B. Notification Prior to Excavation

Notify the FAA Engineer at least 7 days prior to starting excavation work.

C. Permits

The Contractor shall apply, pay fees, etc., to obtain applicable federal, state and local permits and inspections as required and in sufficient time to prevent delaying the project completion.

SECTION 01 11 00 Page 24

A. Airport Insurance Requirements

The Contractor shall provide insurance coverage as required by the Airport. No work on the airport may be performed and no vehicle or equipment may enter the airport unless the proper insurance has been obtained.

3.05 CONDUCTING/EXECUTING SURVEY WORK

Prior to starting any survey work for this project, the contractor and/or surveyors must verify the existing runway threshold data (both ends of the runway) that were established/published at www.ngs.noaa.gov or the coordinates provided by the Project Engineer in charge. Any discrepancies in geographic coordinates including elevations that are greater than +/- 6 inches shall be reported to the Project Engineer, immediately. The Project Engineer shall make the decision to accept the data or the re-survey is required.

The control datum (station) used by the surveyors must be tied directly to the National Spatial Reference System. The most airports have Primary Airport Control Station (PACS) and Secondary Airport Control Station (SACS) and they are the control stations that were established in the vicinity of an airport. They are tied to the National Spatial Reference System and are acceptable to be used as the fixed control points. They are available for the contractors and surveyors on www.ngs.noaa.gov website.

For the airports without the PACS and/or SACS, the Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) can be used as the substitute control stations.

A. Airport Coordination

The Contractor shall coordinate all surveying activities on the airport with airport authorities and air traffic personnel. The contractor shall be responsible for coordinating for access onto runways and taxiways.

B. Horizontal Control

The Contractor shall use a total station, an electronic theodolite or a Global Positioning System (GPS) to establish the layout control point for the system layout and plots. The layout control point must be tied directly to the National Spatial Reference System. The required work shall be laid out in accordance with the contract drawings. Sufficient hubs and tacks shall be installed to facilitate construction and inspection of plot layouts. All required hubs that are displaced shall be immediately re-established. The contractor shall not install nails or tacks on the airport runway and taxiway surfaces;

however, the edges of them shall be acceptable.

C. Vertical Control

The Contractor shall use a automatic level or total station to obtain elevation readings for the specified system. The vertical layout control must also be tied directly to the National Spatial

SECTION 01 11 00 Page 25

Reference System. Prior to foundation installation, the Contractor shall take elevation readings for the existing grade at each foundation. Following the installation of all foundations and the retaining wall, the Contractor shall take elevation readings of the top of each foundation. The Contractor shall redline the project drawings with elevation readings for the top of each foundation.

D. Accuracy (decimal Places) of Horizontal and Vertical Data

The decimal places for the horizontal data shall carry 4 places after the second in the Geographic coordinate system (eg. LAT:

N121deg. 12min. 34.2454sec. & LONG: W121deg. 34min.

13.3454sec.). The decimal places for the vertical data shall be 2 places after the foot (eg. ELEV: 124.34 feet).

E. Quality Assurance

The Contractor shall leave all survey hubs in place until work has been verified. The Contractor shall provide a copy of survey notes that includes layouts of the survey, horizontal and vertical control points that were used and final locations of the survey including elevations. Provide the Geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude and elevation) where indicated on the project drawings. The latitude and the longitude must be based on North American Datum (NAD) 83 and the elevation must be based on North American Vertical Datum (NAVD) 88. The data provided must be in compliance with FAA AC 150/5300-16 and and FAA AC 150/5300-18 and changes if made and the following statement must be included in all survey documents "I hereby certify the data provided has been surveyed and/or prepared by me or under my direction, and is in compliance with FAA AC 150/5300-16 and and FAA AC 150/5300-18 "

The Contractor shall be responsible for checking the data furnished by the License Land Surveyor. The runway end data can be easily verified at the following website:

http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/AERO/UDDFdat.htm. The Contractor must report any discrepancies to the FAA Engineer.

Government approval is required for submittals with a "G" designation;

submittals not having a "G" designation are for information only or as otherwise designated.

Generally, government approval is not required for submittals with a "S" designation; these submittals are usually required by the Airport Sponsor or some other interested party that has authority to review, comment, and/or approve submittal before the Contractor may take action associated with subject of the submittal.

Coordinate with the FAA Engineer within 14 days after contract award to agree to the use of a standard transmittal form and submission process using some form of ball in court method. This agreement should also cover a submittal schedule and typical review and comment period durations.
