About this file

This document is a vendor information guide from the City of Long Beach outlining how businesses can become vendors and participate in the procurement process. The City of Long Beach purchases hundreds of millions of dollars annually in goods and services, ranging from vehicle parts and construction contracts to professional services. For purchases under $40,000, the City solicits quotes directly from businesses and awards contracts to the lowest qualified bidder. For purchases exceeding $40,000, the City posts solicitations to Long Beach Buys, a centralized procurement system where vendors can search for Invitations to Bid (ITBs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and other opportunities, then submit competitive proposals. Prospective vendors must first create a free Long Beach Buys account at longbeach.gov/purchasing, search the database for relevant opportunities, and submit responses for projects matching their qualifications and interests.

The City welcomes participation from small, local, and diverse firms and provides a 5-10 percent preference to local businesses in both quote and solicitation processes. To obtain additional information about vendor registration and the procurement process, the City offers monthly webinars titled "Doing Business with the City," held on the third Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. Interested parties can RSVP for Zoom meeting links at lbcity.info/vendorwebinar. For questions or account setup support, vendors should contact the Purchasing Customer Service department at LBPurchasing@longbeach.gov or 562.570.6200.
