Project Description: SR 500 FROM SR 50 TO SR 414 RAMPS

PURPOSE

After the Design Analysis Recommendation Collaboration Meeting on Monday June 13, 2022, with FDOT, the Department has requested the additional safety improvements for SR 500 from SR 50 to SR 414 Ramps be study and implemented for the following safety enhancements due to crash data, including fatal crashes, with the project corridor limits.

The new design safety enhancement elements are as follows:

Lane Narrowing Speed Feedback Signs Enhanced Pavement Markings Horizontal Deflection Landscaping Buffered Bike Lanes Raised Pedestrian Crossings Sidewalk Connections Directional Median Openings Pedestrian Crossings with RRFB Mid-block crossings with PHB

The above design efforts will include following scope items below:

DRMP:

Project Activity:

21. SIGNALIZATION ANALYSIS

Replacement for existing signal structure at SR 500 at Silver Star Road. The proposed signal structure will be a box strain pole signalized intersection. This will include preemption for the railroad crossing. Communication cable will be connected to the railroad crossing signal house. Interconnection cable will be connected the City of Orlando system.

The addition of a box strain pole signalized intersection at the intersection of SR500 at Shader Road.

The pedestrian safety study shall be expanded to include the design for the 0.74 mile post midblock crosswalk locations will be include pull boxes, conduit, and power considerations for potential future installation of RRFB’s.

Field review will be conducted as well to identify the locations of the poles taking into consideration utility conflicts, right-of-way constraints, sidewalk width and ramp locations, etc.

Project Activity: 22. SIGNALIZATION PLANS

Signalization plan sheets for SR 500 at Silver Star Road and SR 500 at Shader Road. Plans sheet to include Strain pole tabulation sheets and interconnection plans sheets.

Engineering plans for the infrastructure for two future RRFB’s (less the signs, poles, detectors, and signal cable) will be prepared and included in the signal component plan set.

The plans will include pay item numbers, quantities, etc.

Project Activity 23. LIGHTING ANALYSIS

Lighting at the two midblock crosswalks will be identified and evaluated using AGI software and the lighting criteria contained in FDM Table 231.2.1. Coordination with the power company/maintaining agency with regard to lighting at the signalized crosswalks is

August 5, 2022 A- 5 FPID: 447104-1-32-01 already occurring, thus that coordination will not be expanded to include lighting at these two proposed locations. There will also need to be additional effort expended during the field review to assess these two locations.

Project Activity 24. LIGHTING PLANS

Includes intersection sheets plus three pedestrian crossings

Project Activity 31. ITS

ITS shall include no additional work. Connection of signalized intersection to the City of Orlando communication System will be included in the signal plans.
