Attachment No. 1 - HYPOTHETICAL QUESTIONS FOR PM/CM TVRO RFP Tasks

1. A TVRO site has a 2 meter antenna on the I907 satellite, and is receiving the IBB MCPC carrier having the following parameters:

Downlink frequency: 3.764 GHz; Symbol Rate: 24.45 MS/s; FEC: ¾ rate; Satellite EIRP: 34 dBw.

The signal is locked; however the received performance is poor, with video blocking observed.

Discuss the steps needed to diagnose and remedy the problem.

2. Because of changes in site conditions, the site staff has rerouted the coaxial cable for the TVRO since the last PM visit.

Describe the steps needed to detect possible cable faults in the new installation and what tools and test equipment would be used to isolate such faults.

3. A recently installed TVRO antenna exhibits good performance with C-band frequencies; however at Ku band frequencies the performance is deficient.

Discuss possible causes for this problem and what steps can be taken to correct it.

4. A TVRO site is reporting outages that occur daily on a regular basis.

Discuss possible causes for this phenomenon and the specific tests and observations that can be used to track down the cause. Also provide candidate fixes with the advantages and disadvantages for each alternative.

5. A TVRO site reports outages that occur at certain times of the year but not at other times.

Discuss possible causes for this phenomenon and the specific tests and observations that can be used to track down the cause. Also provide candidate fixes with the advantages and disadvantages for each alternative.

6. A Satellite used by the BBG has reported that excessive fuel consumption will cause it to go into an elliptical orbit for an extended period until it will be replaced.

Discuss what action will be needed for the TVROs fed by this satellite. What equipment will be required and what will operators need to do to maintain performance. If there are alternatives, please discuss and provide pros and cons for each.
