About this file
This is a Question and Answer document related to Bid #B-51749 for the Department of Mental Health (DMH) Small Purchase involving a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) kitchen dishwasher hot water supply system project. The document addresses technical clarifications requested during the bidding process regarding flue installation and venting specifications.
The question addressed whether bidders could install a new flue to the grated shaft on the north side or if the existing flue location must be reused. The answer clarifies that either option is acceptable provided it meets applicable building codes. If the existing flue line is abandoned, it must be sealed off on the roof side, with the accessible flue pipe removed up to the support collar near the ceiling of the ATS (electric) room, and the wall penetration sealed with fire stopping material. This response establishes the technical requirements and flexibility available to bidders submitting proposals for this small purchase contract.

DMH Small Purchase CMHC Kitchen Dishwasher Hot Water Supply System Bid # B-51749 Question and Answer
1. Could we run a new flue to grated shaft to the north or are we going to need to reuse the existing flue location?
Answer: Either option is acceptable as long as it is code compliant. The existing flue pipe needs sealed off on the roof side if the existing flue line is abandoned. Then the accessible flue pipe needs removed up to the support collar near the ceiling of the ATS (electric) room. Additionally, the penetration through the block wall needs sealed with fire stopping material.
