Introduction
Everglades National Park is a 1.5-million-acre wetlands preserve on the southern tip of the state of Florida. Often compared to a grassy, slow-moving river, the Everglades is made up of coastal mangroves, sawgrass marshes, and pine flatwoods that are home to hundreds of animal species. Among the Everglades’ abundant wildlife are the endangered leatherback turtle, Florida panther, and West Indian manatee.
This Project
A parkwide wayside exhibit proposal was created for Everglades National Park in 2001, last revised 2013. The planning and design for these outdoor exhibits has been broken into multiple phases. The work in this contract is the last phase to complete the proposed wayside exhibits as outlined in the parkwide proposal—with a few changes.
Within this contract are the following tasks:
• Planning, design, and writing for all exhibits in scope
• Custom illustration for panels specified
• Interpretive Spanish translation of all exhibit text
• Image acquisition of up to 20 images
• 3D design and reference packages for 3 interactive components
• 3D design for one tactile, raised-line orientation map
Accessibility
The exhibits will be developed in subsequent phases to fully comply with physical and programmatic accessibility strategies. These strategies will include but are not limited to:
• Universal design of the physical environment: adherence to ADA/ABA requirements (applies to exhibits for which physical design is in scope)
• Incorporation of meaningful tactile elements to bring the story alive for visitors with low vision and blindness (as dictated by project scope)
• Spanish translation of all text
• Ample accessible circulation space around interpretive components
The interpretive topics are presented through multiple methods:
• Prominent, bold titles and clear hierarchy of content
• Introductory sentence communicates the main idea followed by short, clear text
• Timeless design communicating this as a NPS site
• Original illustrations to support concepts and/or engaging photos
This Deliverable
This document includes the following required components:
• Final layouts with final English text, final Spanish text, and final graphics (illustrations, images, and maps)
• Reference package with interactive elements
We have also provided:
• Final InDesign files with linked images and fonts
• Raw scans and layered graphic source files
• Source file for tactile mapFinal image log with PDFs of use rights
• Attachment D, Wayside Exhibit Proposal Chart with final sizes and mounts
• Accessible Word documents of final English and Spanish
• Drawing Set
• comment responses

Known as the “engineers of the Everglades,” American alligators help shape this land.
They excavate deep pools of water that become home to fish, wading birds, and other alligators, helping them all survive the dry, winter season.
