About this file
This document is a Standard Work procedure for monthly fire extinguisher inspections at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The standard work details a six-step process performed by a contractor when requested by the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), including obtaining a master key set, inspecting fire extinguisher locations and equipment, and verifying compliance with The Joint Commission, NFPA, and OSHA standards. Key inspection requirements include checking extinguisher placement (4-5 feet from floor), examining for physical damage, verifying pressure gauge status, inspecting hoses and seals, shaking "ABC" extinguishers to loosen chemical powder, and updating inspection tags. The contractor must return the master key set to the boiler plant and submit completed inspection sheets to the COR, ensuring a comprehensive monthly safety verification process for fire prevention equipment.
