About this file
This specification document is issued by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for herbicide treatment services at the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area. The project involves the application of prescribed herbicides on 550 acres of small trees within the Little River Basin, located in LaSalle, Catahoula, and Rapides parishes approximately 25 miles northeast of Alexandria. Contractors will use low-volume backpack sprayers to apply an herbicide mix consisting of 4% Aquamaster, 0.75% Arsenal, 4 ounces of Escort XP per 100 gallons with 1% surfactant to targeted tree species including water elm, swamp privet, and black willow, each generally less than 6 feet in height. A minimum of 4.5 gallons of spray per acre is required, with individual tree application ensuring at least 85% of each tree's apical meristems receive spray coverage. The project timeline begins no earlier than September 1st and concludes no later than October 31st, with a mandatory pre-bid conference scheduled on site to allow vendors to assess the remote work location, evaluate tree size and density, and clarify project requirements.
The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will provide all herbicides, while the contractor is responsible for supplying water for tank mixes and disposing of empty containers. Based on experimental trials indicating approximately 20% tree survival, a retreatment of approximately 20% of trees is required in September 2027. Payment structure allocates 90% upon completion of the initial project and the final 10% following retreatment completion. No specific pricing information, set-asides, or funding source details are provided in this specification document.
