NSWPD 442– Steam & Diesel Electric Power Systems

Generation, Automation, & Distribution Ship Systems Engineering Station, Philadelphia PA

Mechanical Interface Specification References:

1. Statement of Work Appendices:

1. Appendix A: Outline and Interface Figures

The purpose of this document is to define the mechanical interfaces between the generator and the existing ship side configuration. The provided generator shall conform to the interface requirements as described in this document. This document also details, where allowed and/or necessary, accessories that may be used to meet the constraints of these interfaces.

If unavoidable to meet the requirements as set forth within this document, the SELLER shall provide to the BUYER in writing, details of additional modifications to the ship side of the interface for BUYER review. The BUYER shall provide response in writing to the SELLER as to the acceptability of proposed ship side changes.

1. Foundation Interface Requirements The provided generator shall interface with the existing Ship Service Turbine Generator (SSTG) sub base utilizing existing bolt holes to the greatest extent possible, as shown in Appendix A. The BUYER and SELLER shall verify and agree upon foundation bolting layout and fastners used.

2. Overall Envelope & Limiting Dimensions The provided generator shall meet or be less than the maximum envelope requirements, as shown in Appendix A. The primary point of reference shall be the center of the reduction gear coupling flange.

3. Main Power Terminal Boxes

Cable entry for the main power terminal boxes shall be located below the generator as shown in Appendix A.

4. Sense of Rotation

Generator shall rotate counterclockwise as viewed from the coupling end.

5. Generator Drive Coupling Flange A spool piece type coupling shall be used to connect the generator to the reduction gear coupling. Figure 1 illustrates the current rotor coupling connections.

6. Voltage Regulator

The generator assembly shall accommodate the mounting of a separate enclosure on the subbase to house the voltage regulation equipment as indicated within Appendix A Space allocation. There shall be no interferences elsewhere on the sub base that would prevent opening the enclosure door to at least a 90 degree angle. Mounting pattern shall match that as shown in Appendix A such that the enclosure shall be mounted upright.

7. Access

Overall dimensions and envelopes are given within Appendix A. Generator shall be capable of disassembly for maintenance using the envelopes specified. Primary access shall be through the opposite side of the voltage regulator cabinet.

8. Support Services Interfaces

Cooling water interface shall be in accordance with the requirements set forth in Section 3.1.2.3.11 and 3.1.2.3.12 of the Statement of Work. Cooling water connections shall be located as to be near to the locations as specified within Appendix A.

Bearing return oil shall use a gravity drainage system leading back to the SSTG oil sump, providing positive drainage under the operating conditions as listed in ABS NVR Part 0, Chapter 3, Section 4. Lubricating oil shall be MS 2190 TEP of MIL-PRF-17331. Connection preference shall be as specified within Appendix A.
