About this file
This document provides details on base support equipment and facilities available to support a federal contract for the Selection, Screening, Discovery and Design of Alloys and Advanced Metals Processing Technologies (SDAMPT). The contract will take place at various buildings at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio from August 2021 through August 2028. Equipment available includes metalworking machines such as a 1000-ton vertical forge press, a 700-ton extrusion press, a 75-ton rolling mill, and a 250g vacuum arc melter. Additional equipment includes a Gleeble thermomechanical testing machine, mechanical testing load frames with induction heating capabilities, a torsion testing unit, heat treatment furnaces, a hot isostatic press, EDM machines, thermal analysis instruments, and machining equipment. The contractor will work with Air Force and Space Force scientists and engineers to conduct research and development, assist with operation of laboratories, perform modeling and analysis, evaluate material properties, conduct characterization, and advance manufacturing approaches for metallic materials. The end goal is to assess new metals technologies and transition advancements to the defense supply chain.
