DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

AIR FORCE LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT CENTER

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE OHIO

10 June 2019

MEMORANDUM FOR

FROM: (AF NDI Office)

SUBJECT: Use of local purchase funds for acquisition of Computed Radiography (CR) equipment.

1. , it is acceptable for AETC bases to use local purchase funds for the acquisition of computed radiography equipment.

Allowance standard , NDI/OPT SE lists NSN 6635-01-631-1310, NDI center (lab) allotment. The generic NSN for CR equipment is 6635-01-523- 5766. No contract for central purchase of CR equipment is currently available.

. The

Carestream HPX-1 Plus is approved for x-ray imaging and processing for welder certification and crack detection.

Given the various factors involved which include AETC’s critical need for this CR equipment, and the constant state of fluctuation of rankings for equipment requisitions within the , our office fully supports your decision to leverage the use of local funding to acquire this equipment. The intent of Message was to prevent NDI labs from going out on their own and acquiring inspection equipment that was not authorized and not approved. This is clearly not the case in this situation.
