Amendment 0001 Solicitation No. AG-94TZ-S-16-0153
Additional Maps and Staging Areas Potential Staging Areas:
-Cagle Cabin admin site along hwy 288 just north of McFadden Peak unfortunately this is being used by the contractor doing road work on Hwy 288 just south of McFadden Peak. I will have to see if there is room for shared use of this site.
-Tonto Basin Airstrip, Grapevine -Pleasant Valley DO, we have several hardened helipad sites adjacent to the fire bay -Pleasant Valley, we have a dirt airstrip 5 miles from the DO -Aztec Peak could be another staging area. It is outside the wilderness area.
-Zimmerman Point / Spike Camp -The borrow pit about 0.5 miles south of Sawmill Flat
Attached are the Juniper Fire (AZ-TNF-000476) BAER contract (AG-94T7-S-16-0153) supplies/materials Staging Areas we have identified in both GoogleEarth .kml and ArcGIS shapefile formats.
An access disclaimer for the Aztec Peak site - the Workman Creek road (487 road) is a very rough, narrow road and will not accommodate large truck (e.g. semi-truck) ingress/egress. A flatbed truck and gooseneck trailer may attain the top of Aztec Peak, but a bridge must be crossed near the Workman Creek falls location that will restrict load weights (20 ton load limit). All other locations identified for staging purposes are easily attainable with a semi-truck if need be.
Some of the Arizona Dept. of Transportation (ADOT) borrow sites along the 288 road (Desert to Tall Pines Scenic Highway) may or may not be available for materials staging use due to ongoing Highway Dept. maintenance activities...we have a local point of contact we are engaging with to see if ADOT will be amenable to use of their borrow sites for BAER work purposes. As soon as we get that information back from ADOT, we will update you...
You will also see that I have included the Payson Airport Helipad for helicopter and pilot Rest Over Night (RON) purposes, as Payson, AZ has a few more amenities than Young, AZ does, but don't discount Young/Pleasant Valley for RON purposes as they do have a food market, gas for vehicles, a couple B-n-B's, a small hotel, and the Antlers restaurant - not to mention Young is very quiet!
Attached is a generic area Travel map for the Juniper Fire burned area. Also depicted on the map are the 10 separate seed and mulch treatment polygons along with the 11 Staging Areas around theatre, minus the potential Payson Helipad RON location (RON inclusion would have blown the area up…).
