Questions and Answers

Lost Creek Culvert Replacement

1. What is the estimate of how many cubic feet per second will be flowing in the creek at the time of construction?

Answer: Below is a link to the USGS web page that is designed to estimate flows for streams in

Montana. Please use the data supplied in the solicitation and this computer model to make your own estimates.

The culvert replacements are sized for 100 year flood levels. It is not expected that the Q rates near those maximum levels at the time of construction.

2. Is the site open to see it before the quote is due?

Answer: Flathead County plows the Tally Lake Road (FSRD#913) to a point within 1/4 to a 1/2 mile of the 3rd Lost Creek crossing on FSRD #913A. If a contractor wanted to see the 3rd crossing site and they ended up stuck it would still be reasonable a tow truck (at the contractors expense) might come get them, the site is within 1/2 mile of the end of county plowing maintenance.

I understand that beyond the point the county plows there is deep snow that has been accessed by Four Wheel drive vehicles. I do not recommend accessing these sites via pickup truck but it has been done. I think the sites might be reachable via snowmobiles in a much safer manner, but these machines also require special operating skills to be safe.
