SECTION C – DESCRIPTION OF WORK
(Clause numbers in this Task Order are consistent with the parent contract. All clauses included in the parent contract are applicable and supplemented with information in this Task Order.)
C.1. Scope of Task Order
Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) has caused high levels of mortality in mature trees in campgrounds and forested areas located on the Parks Ranger District. Removal of dead lodgepole pine trees has occurred resulting in opportunities to plant and establish a younger cohort of trees. Trees and shrubs to be planted include one year old container grown lodgepole, spruce, and ceanothus and mountain ash shrub species. Conditions suitable for planting are expected to occur around late-April – mid-May for both sites.
Ten (10) total days are allowed for the performance of all line items included in this task order.
C.2. Location and Description of Planting Units
C.2.1. Working in forests impacted by insect epidemics and wildfire.
The Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) and Spruce Beetle (SB) epidemics across these forests have caused high levels of mortality in mature trees. Insects and disease typical of MPB in pines and SB infestations in Engelmann spruce have been degrading wood structure in the dead standing trees found in and around planting units and along forest roads. Whole trees, branches, and other debris may fall at any time but especially during windy conditions.
C.2.3. Specific locations, maps and other information pertaining to project sites will be provided with each Task order.
This Task Order is located on the Parks Ranger District, located at 100 Main St., Walden, CO.
Legal descriptions for planting sites:
Teal Lake Campground. Approximately 60 miles from Walden, CO. In Section 9 & 16, T7N, R82W, 6 th
PM, Jackson County, CO

C.3 Planting Site Descriptions
Teal Lake Camp Ground (CG) is within an established campground. Hazard tree removal occurred in 2009.
Slash from the hazard tree removal operations has been piled and burned and will not impede planting. The majority of the over-story in the campground planting area has been removed. This unit has three (3) separate work items but all three (3) occur in the same unit. One item is for tree planting across the unit, while the other two (2) work items are for tree and shrub planting by pin flag location within a specified portion of the unit. All planting is within the 28 plantable acres. Some shelters shall be required and furnished by the government. No walk-in.
The second site is a timber harvest unit which resulted in a regeneration failure. The overstory occurred around
2009 and slash has been removed, the site is prepped of planting. No shelters or walk-in required.
Both sites will be closed to the public during planting operations.
C.4 Access to Planting Units
All items are accessed by National Forest System Roads (NFSR), County or State roads. Access to, and within all campground units is via gravel or paved surfaced roads.
Teal Lake CG. Access from Walden via Colorado Highway 14 to Jackson County Road (CR) 24, to NFSR 60, to
NFSR 615. Harden gravel surface road starts on CR24 and continues to the CG entrance.
