C2.0. Description of Lagoons by Site.

C2.1. Big Lake: There are two lagoons that make up the Big Lake Sewage Treatment system. The primary lagoon is a membrane lined circular lagoon. The second lagoon a polishing smaller rectangular clay lined lagoon

Big Lake Primary Sewage Lagoon

Big Lake Secondary Polishing Lagoon

C2.1.a: Aerated Primary Circular Lagoon: The radius of the lagoon at 5 foot depth is 100 feet. The radius at the bottom of the lagoon is 85 feet. The volume of the lagoon 134,700 cubic feet or 1,007,525 gallons. This lagoon has a membrane liner.

C2.1.b. Secondary Rectangular Lagoon: This lagoon acts as a settling basin for any solids that may be discharged from the aerated lagoon. It is designed to operate at a liquid depth of 5 feet. The bottom dimensions are 150 feet by 200 feet. The liquid volume is 177,736 cubic feet or 1,329,465 gallons.

See drawings for approximate dimensions of each lagoon.

C2.2. The forest has not tested the lagoons in order to estimate the volume of solids in the lagoons. The primary lagoon has been receiving significant amounts of solids pumped from of vault toilets from around the forest. This waste is in addition to the normal sewage/solids generated by the Big Lake Campground. The aerator in this lagoon has not been functioning during the last two seasons partly due to electrical problems and excess solids. We also suspect there could be “short circuiting” between the primary and secondary lagoons. This may have caused there to be excess solids in the secondary lagoon.

C2.3. Canyon Point Campground: The Canyon Point Campground has a single cell lagoon lined with bentonite clay. The lagoon is not aerated. A special condition is this lagoon fills with ground water during the winter and spring. This necessitates the Forest Service discharge water from this lagoon to a designated and fenced area. Once water levels drop to approximately 3 feet of freeboard, the lagoon functions normally, maintaining this freeboard throughout the operating season without further discharge. The lagoon bottom dimension is 98 feet square. The top of the berm dimension is 146 feet square. Total Depth is 8 feet. Interior side wall slopes are 3:1. The sewage lagoon should be operated at a minimum depth of 3 feet and a maximum depth of 5 feet. At a maximum operating depth of 5 feet, the volume of the lagoon is 130,730 cubic feet or 977,928 gallons.

Canyon Point Campground Sewage Lagoon. 1 C2.4: Woods Canyon Lagoon. There are two lagoons at this site. The secondary or polishing lagoon is new and is not yet in service. Only the primary lagoon will be part of this project. This lagoon serves one Recreation Vehicle (RV) Dump Station, two A-Frame cottages and several RV sites clustered around the A-Frame cottages. The lagoon is rectangular. The bottom of the lagoon is approximately 110 feet long by 50 feet wide. The dimensions at the top of the berm are 154 feet long by 86 feet wide. The elevation difference between the bottom of the lagoon and the top of the berm is 6 feet. The maximum design water depth is 3 feet. At 3 feet of depth, the volume of the lagoon is 21,306 cubic feet or 178,350 gallons.
