Preferred method is to treat alternating 100-foot sections avoiding vegetated areas. The decommissioned road and cattle trial must be in a stable condition that maintains drainage minimizing erosion.

Some minor clearing may be necessary in order to access the road and complete a work item. If necessary for proper excavation and placement of material, remove vegetation from fill slope, back slope, and ditch lines prior to excavation and placement of material.

(a) Performance. When clearing is needed, it shall be accomplished as follows:

(1) Clearing slash shall be scattered on disturbed areas and shall not be incorporated in embankment material unless otherwise SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS.

(2) Unless otherwise SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, the materials generated will not need to be limbed and lopped.

(3) Materials shall be positioned in a stable position to prevent rolling.

(4) Generated Materials that create such a deep or thick mat that they will prevent seeding, ripping, or other ground surface treatments called for shall be further scattered or moved off disturbed areas.

Scatter any available slash on obliterated roadway. Eliminate all ruts and low spots that could hold water. Effectively close the road by installing an earthen berm and obliterating the first 150 feet of roadway to approximate ground contour. On road 1306-365 the contractor shall not munch a wandering 5-foot wide path for livestock and range operations within the roadway prism boundaries.
