About this file

This is a specifications document for selective demolition and removal work on exterior second-level deck handrailing and steel staircase components. The work encompasses removal of all handrail elements including posts, balusters, top and bottom rails, brackets, and fasteners; complete steel staircase assembly removal including stringers, treads, landing platform, posts, and anchorage hardware; and restoration of affected surfaces. The contractor must provide temporary fall protection during demolition, mechanical lifting equipment for safe stair assembly removal, grinding and sanding tools, and exterior-grade wood filler and corrosion-resistant sealant for patching. Work requires inspection of existing conditions prior to demolition, notification to the Owner of any concealed structural deterioration discovered, and sealing of exposed fastener holes with corrosion-resistant sealant. The contractor is responsible for protecting adjacent structures, siding, windows, doors, and landscaping from damage; maintaining safe working conditions in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926; and daily debris removal with site cleanup to broom-clean condition upon completion. Steel components should be recycled when feasible, and all disposal must comply with local regulations. Coordination with the Owner is required for access and safety during demolition operations, and all work must be documented with written confirmation of component removal and photographs of connection points after removal.
