About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a dockside availability for the USCGC ALERT from February 4th to March 31st, 2023. The availability requires potable water access, which can be obtained from the pier's source with the proper adapters and sanitized hoses. While an extra power outlet is available, the contractor will not be able to utilize the pier's shore power and will need to rely on pier-side generators, which are extremely costly to operate due to fuel and environmental requirements.

Text version

“This DS requires a fair amount of water to clean tanks, flush pipes, flush chill water, Potable Water to support Shower and Toilet Trailers, if the contractor can not access the Potable Water on the Pier

Q: Where do we access Potable Water?

A: Counter to what was provided in a previous answer the KTR can access the pier’s P/W source given they have the right adapters and sanitize their hoses prior to connection.

Q: There is 1 open or extra Viking/NATO outlet on the Shore Tie Power Vault, if the contractor has the correct equipment to hook up to that shore tie, would that be allowed?

A: The previous answer stands regarding the use of the pier’s shore power. The KTR will not be able to use the pier’s shore tie. Pier-side generators have been used during previous availabilities.

Warning running Diesel Generators for an entire dockside is extremely costly to maintain Fueling. In addition to the secondary containments and daily diesel fuel deliveries adds significant environmental risk, noise and air pollution. This location has heavy public domain being exposed to an Industrial Environment.”
