Questions and Answers during Advertisement for SD FTNP BADL 10(9), Dillon Pass Embankment Repairs

April 25, 2019

Questions Answers 1 Contract specifications reference, AASHTO M 320 designates that a Perfromance Graded AC needs to be used, and a SDDOT Class G Asphalt Concrete JMF will work for what you are asking for on this project. However, we have been unable to find an actual PG AC minimum specified, and typically to meet the TSR requirement, along with allowing a SDDOT Class G, the minimum AC needed is a PG64-28! Can you please clarify what the minimum PG AC that needs to be utilized for this contract?

According to Materials, the PG 64-28 binder with an SDDOT Class G Asphalt Concrete JMF is the binder that we are wanting. It is the binder used most often by SDDOT. In accordance with the SCR, the JMF to include SDDOT approval within the past 12 months and a production certification conforming to the SDDOT specifications.

2 With the bid date of May 1st, and an anticipated NTP of June 16, the residual effects of the Sturgis Bike Rally, along with the amount of work volume needed to be completed prior to the just the Asphalt Pavement portion of the work, are you anticipating mid-to-late September for the surfacing operation to be commence?

This is entirely up to the contractor’s schedule and the weather. We have given a completion date of October 31, 2019 in which all work needs to be completed.

3 I noticed a 36-inch Pipe Culvert (Concrete) at STA 694+63 to 695+22 Rt. There is no bid item listed in schedule A for 36-inch Pipe Culvert (Concrete). There is a bid item for 18-inch Pipe Culvert (Concrete) but I have not found any 18-inch Pipe Culvert on this project.

The culvert is listed as a 24-INCH PIPE CULVERT (CONCRETE) in the Drainage Summary on Sheet B10 and is totaled in the Summary of Quantities and Bid Tabs as such. The contractor should bid the item as it is listed in the Bid Tabs.
